How about they run on the Republican ticket? I might actually vote for them.

When was the last time a third party did ANYTHING but act as a spoiler for the party that leaned towards it's agenda in the first place. Nader is an egotistical idiot... so was George Wallace.

George Jr. can retire and join corporate boards all over the place, make like the elder statesman and leave the country alone. We would be so much better off.

If they ran as Democrats, so much the better. :)
The assault on them as fringe leftist unpatriotic wackos would be priceless to see.

Interesting that no one responded to the substance of his comments.

    The Dems aren't that lucky.

    A McCain\Powell ticket screams 'Teflon'.

Just as interesting that instead of responding to the substance of Daschle's comments he was just attacked instead.

I don't have any evidence to back up my hunches about why Newt is doing this, I won't bother anyone with my hunches.

Newt is simply flexing the political freedom afforded one who pissed someone off and had his career destroyed as a result. It's amazing what one is allowed to say when they don't have to worry about repercussions of towing the party line anymore.

Not that I support the guy, that contract for america bull**** was some funny stuff. Maybe he could make a career as a standup comic. All he would have to do is make jokes about the dirt he has on his fellow upstanding republicans.

Look, people. Colin Powell is the Secretary of State. It is his job to play the diplomat, to soothe ruffled feathers around the world, to line up allies if possible.

Of course he accomplished nothing. How could he? The administration has set a tone for war, whenever they want, against whomever they want. Powell has been the fall guy, the stooge, the moderate among reactionaries.

And now this carefully orchestrated hatchet job by an administration emboldened by what they call war victory over a weak nation. Gingrich, of all people, comes out blasting; Ari Fleischer steps in to modify and mollify.

Forcing out Powell---shutting him down or shutting him up---is a sign that future U.S. military conquests may be in order.

Of course the State Department failed in its objectives. The entire time, the Defense Department and, to a lesser extent, the administration, was working against it. How is the State Dept supposed to negotiate with France and Germany when the Defense Department is simultaneously calling them "old Europe" and no longer relevent?

This was certainly a diplomatic failure, but it was a failure because the administration that was not wholly consistent in its message.

"The concept of the American secretary of state going to Damascus to meet with a terrorist-supporting, secret-police-wielding dictator is ludicrous," said Gingrich..."
