i don't think it's a joke, but that's because i have a history of listening to cheesy christian "hip hop" and i know it all too well...and also because the "side hug" wasn't a joke in my youth group.
This guys ask the same question in his blog. http://egregores.blogspot.com/2009/11/christian-side-hug-is-this-for-real.html I for one, think this is real.
Here's one of their other videos. Done as a joke, but pretty much the same message. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5hz7gnB6ozw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5hz7gnB6ozw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
For real. Who's the ugly guy with that pretty woman? No wonder he got the side huggage*. *Yes I did just use the term "huggage". Copyright rhad 2009.
wow, after watching those other videos of their's I really have no idea what to make of them. Seems like cheap parody....but....also seems like they are serious about anti PDA etc....
My sister was a DA in Corpus, and now works in private practice in Family Law, and the thing she says is most prevalent in that area is the unbelievable lack of any kind of self-control on the part of the 'young people' down there. Nobody is married, there are no family units to speak of, everyone is on gov't assistance and can't be married because the checks would stop, most of those girls are grandmothers by age 30. While this hip hop crap is crap whether it is Christian or Secular ofr Hindu or whatever, at least some people recognize that there is in fact a problem and are at least trying to think of SOME way to connect with these children who only know how to make bad decisions and make more baby bad-decision-makers.
. . . . . . . I LIKED IT!! Wouldnt that actually kinda bring MORE attention to it/them? Its what it looks like, prudishness everywhere. And the people in the group trying to gain cool cred by being "street". Cuz within the christian youth groups its really the only thing you can do to be "edgy" and different. They're working within limitations to begin with. Coulda been less corny about it though...listening to the song at work not watching the video, sounds like a silly conference song. Then looking at the imagery along with the song......
