Saw someone post this somewhere else...if chris berman were covering this story, he would call him, gilbert guns in the arenas.
So they did misquote Javaris friend who confirmed that Javaris told him this happened? Interesting stuff.
His 111M deal says otherwise about his career and potential. However, it would be tragic if his career is derailed because of card or golf game debts and him pulling a stunt like pulling a gun in the locker room.
It's like Chekhov's gun news style. I remember reading a week or two ago a thread titled "Arenas keeps a gun in his locker." and in true literary form, it's reintroduced in probably the most irresponsible way ever.
I dont really understand the point of such an argument. i mean they are both professional nba players that get very well paid... why so stingy on a bit of gambling debt.
I can't believe they let him play today. http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/boxscore?gameId=300102027 In other news, 24/4rbs for Caron tonight. Pretty good.
Dang I was getting excited when I saw this thread at the top... Thought I had an update or something.
I think it would be awesome if he got the contract voided...... Such a lesson to be learned......for the "Sense of entitlement" generation of players. DD
The league is turning this into a big deal to send a message to some players. The Wiz is secretly hoping to void Gilbert's contract. But the Wiz aren't doing so to teach any lessons, they want to void his contract because they stupidly overpaid an injured player in the first place. Think about what would happen if Lebron James had done this instead of Gilbert. Cleveland would be covering this up as much as they could, the league would turn a blind eye. And if for some crazy reason Cleveland voided Jame's contract the other 29 teams would step up ASAP to offer him as much money as they could next year.
Didn't read the whole thread...so maybe it's been mentioned, but did anyone else get "Janey's got a gun" stuck in their head when reading this story?
I hope they don't get to void his contract. Teams should have to suffer the consequences of taking a huge gamble and offering bad contracts to an injured/upside player.
Exactly, lets make sure the only way for Washington to get out of their financial mess is to sell off their good players and talented youngsters for expiring deals. There will be one less team for the Rockets to poach if Washington is let off the hook for their dumb decisions.
I want it voided, I like the drama and uproar it would create....and a big lesson to those overpaid prima donnas. DD
