and that team that paid him that much probably had a horrible record the previous year. I could definitely see the Knicks paying that much, but not too many other teams.

dont see arenas ever earning a max contract again in his career, not sure how much the wizards would be willing to pay him to leave but i really dont see a mid point for them to meet at with that amount of dough still owed to arenas. i dont really see a need for him on the rockets, this should get moved to the dish.

Wow thats REALLY low. Though Arenas would have played more games last year if he didnt get suspended. And the suspension might have been been a mixed blessing keeping his legs away from more wear and tear. Just he hasn't been basketball relevant in 3 years now, thats worse than McGrady.

I'd think having Arenas on the team would conflict with Brooks too much. I think Brooks is in the spot like Rafer was where you have to trade him if you don't want him as the starter. And I dont think you do it for Arenas.

    Basketball Mind,
I think you have a misunderstanding of the salary cap rules regarding buyouts. The payoff structure applies only to the buyout money. NBA teams are not allowed to lower their official team salary in the books in regards to having cap space. Buying out Arenas will not give the Wizards more cap space no matter what. I'm pretty confident about this, and I also believe it is central to your argument. For if it was possible, then I would agree with you that the Wizards ought to try that option. But it's impossible. and paying him a huge sum to walk away and still have his 4 years $80 count towards the cap is bad management.

As for being a Rocket. I don't like his contract, nor his health issues, but his skills are very legit. He has shot selection issues, but his driving ability, finishing ability, court vision, and clutch shot-making ability is all at a superstar level.

I doubt the Rockets are even considering trading for or even picking him up cheap if gets bought out...

That being said, I think some teams might look to trade for him, but he is only gonna get other bad contracts in return...

    Brand
    Diaw/Diop
    Turk/Calderon
    B. Davis
    etc...

If I'm the Wiz I'd any of those over Arenas, just because he's a symbol of the old regime

Can we get the President's thoughts on this? Being that Agent (literally) 0 plays for Washington?
