True, they did have some ska and reggae bands that played there regularly that played original material. My band played about 50/50 cover/original (Funk, R&B) and we would hear it every night from Mike that he wanted more cover tunes, regardless of how the original material went over. Like I said, though, I haven't played there in several years.

    Thanks for the info.

In San Marcos, we definitely know about Lucy's and Triple Crown. I have a friend who plays there regularly. They are just , like a lot of places, difficult to contact.

    Keep the info coming. :)

That was us. The first gig I played was at Yaga's with a band called Six West. We took one of SA8's sets. They told me that if I ever got tired of playing with Six West I could come play with them. About 8 months later I took them up on the offer and stayed with them until I went to Texas State to finish my degree. We played our last show in December 2003 though they're now reformed as a Dub/Reggae group called the I*Gents.

Galveston is a weird place for gigs. The only place I've seen there that regularly books original bands is the Balinese Room, but it trends towards popular, established artists.

    Jeff,

I've been living up here in Denton for about 2 years, maybe I can help.

But my guitar has been in its case for years, my bar towel hasn't been wet since the 80s, and, well, I'm married now, so I don't know the scene here to well...actually not at all.

But if you here about someplace here, I'd be happy to check it out for you.

Don't forget the hotbed of live music that is East Texas, Nacogdoches and SFA

"Bullfrogs is looking for bands to book. If you are interested contact Jeems at (936) 569-3234. Right now we're pretty flexible on dates so call me now!"

    I totally stole that off a web site . . .

btw, I don't think the link from your website to your Myspace is working.

Buddy of mine from Tulsa just got back to me:

-South Boston Liquid Company ("Liquidz" -near 18th and Boston) (918) 582-7375
    -Boston's (also near 18th and Boston) (918) 583-9520
-Full Moon Cafe (Cherry Street) (918) 583-6666
-Gray Snail (Cherry Street) (918) 587-SLUG
-Crow Creek Tavern (Brookside area on Peoria Ave.) (918) 742-9190
-The Pinkeye (11th St.) (918) 382-0201 (don't know much about this one)
-The Otherside (not sure about this one either but I know they showcase rock music... they have some national acts play occasionally)

*Cain's Ballroom (918) 584-2306 --It might be tough to get a gig here if they are just starting out and making a name for themselves. This would be the ultimate though if they were able to maybe get on the bill with some other band(s).
