http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Dot-Studio-SemiHollow-Electric-Guitar?sku=518706 This guitar would be awesome. 200 ships free, and not as tough to fret as a full on acoustic. Pretty loud without amp. Let him learn some songs before he gets an amp anyways, amps for begginers are overrated.
So I went to Guitar Center today, and they had this Yamaha for $100, on one of those "please buy it today because you can't get this price tomorrow" deals. I bought it. If I find a better deal, I may bring it back, but I'll probably give him this one.
Try to find a good tech to set it up, possibly with lighter gauge strings. A good setup makes a cheaper guitar play very very nice.
Lone Star Guitars. On College Ave. in South Houston...other side of the freeway from Hobby Airport. And yes, I give lessons, if they want to learn how to play the blues. Bladeage has taken lessons from me.
i have a Johnson Strat Copy (Black, electric) for sale $75 and a Washburn EA9B (Black, acoustic-electric) for sale $75. i guess shipping will run about $25 each. so take both for $200
find some tabs online, just some power chords to start with. it aint that hard to make sound, it's just hard to be good at it something i'm struggling with hehe
The RD20S is what I bought. It is a suprisingly nice instrument and much better than any other guitar I tried in that price range (which was all of them). That includes the pawn shops... it's getting harder to find deals there although Craigslist is a nice alternative.
