I'm with you. We can't do anything about it now. But, I would like to see some changes next year. Too bad we let this starting staff go to waste.
I can understand working within a budget and ultimately caring about the bottom line. Afterall, this is a business, and that's smart business. I actually I applaud him for the way he has run this franchise for the past decade. He's increased payroll when he saw it would ultimately pay itself off (Clemens and Pettite). He's a great businessman. What I can't swallow is this "...because the Houston Astros are committed to do whatever it takes to be a winner!" bullsh*t he spews in just about every appearance. That's just not true, don't insult our intelligence like that. It's completely ok to not "do whatever it takes to be a winner," I wouldn't either, that's stupid and bad business. But don't stand up there grinning like an idiot, swearing you did the best you could this year to field the best possible team behind this starting staff when your running a minor league All-Star lineup every day.
Todays line-up W. Taveras cf O. Palmeiro C. Biggio 2b L. Berkman lf M. Lamb 1b M. Ensberg 3b A. Everett ss B. Ausmus c R. Clemens p Biggio at 3 finally. He is the best hitter this year. Finally Phil takes out Jason Lane and I would have taken Everett out to. Maybe he needs to try Todd Self instead of Lamb cause Lamb.
Clemens new t-shirt: "I struck out 10 batters in 5 innings and all I got is this lousy t-shirt and a 1 run deficit."
Perhaps a sign of things to come... a locked-in Lance Berkman, and Craig Biggio batting 3rd (while he still has his legs under him) could mean WONDERS for this lineup.
I'm not getting this game but that's pretty cool that Biggio and Berkman jacked homeruns. 4 runs should be enough to win this game.
Wow...Clemens is a beast! How often do you see a guy go 8 innings, allowing one run, and see his ERA go UP. Not only that, he's hitting .353. Amazing and he's 42!
Yea, if we continue to struggle, I wouldn't mind seeing him sent somwhere else. He deserves to be on a winning team.
I agree that he deserves to win... but seriously, folks, he's getting paid $18 million to pitch for us right now. I think he'll be fine.
I just wanted to point out that, after tonight, the Astros' record in games that I have attended is 3-1, which, considering their overall record, is nothing short of phenomenal in my opinion. Also, my friend who I went to the game with tonight is 2-0. Not bad for a rookie. She is from Thailand and has just discovered baseball in the past month.
Regardless of what he's getting paid, I'm going to feel bad if he ends up with an ERA under two and 10 wins.
I feel worse for guys like Jeriome Robertson, who has a 5.something ERA, but wins 15... because he actually thinks he's good at the end of the day. Wins are truly an overrated stat, and only serves as a marker for either how long you've pitched, or that you've pitched for good teams
Roger may say that at the end of the night it doesn't matter to him if he got the win or not, but in the end you know it really does. I just feel like our crappy offense is letting him down.
