No thanks. I'd like to see this group continue to grow and compete. I'm not saying he's better but I prefer Sengun just from a "I like the way he plays" POV.
People on Twitter are laughing at Rockets fans for not wanting to gut our team for Giannis. Yet, they really don't have a response to why the Bucks' are terrible with Giannis, only meekly replying, "Meh, it's the Bucks." But how would we be much better than the Bucks if we traded away most of our talent for Giannis? We have two potential budding stars in Sengun and Amen. In that situation, you trade for a major player who fits WITH those two. You trade to PAIR players with your young talent. You don't trade away your best prospects for a star if you don't already have an existing star. That's lunacy.
This team is starting to come into its own, and with a bunch of young guys getting better and better. I would hate to tear that apart by trading off a bunch of young guys and draft picks for a 30 year old. Patience is the key. That trade could end up backfiring on us when we have to start rebuilding once again to fill all the holes. It would be even worse if we had to watch those young guys flourish somewhere else. Been there, done that, let's not do it again.
As tempting as it may be, I am ultimately saying no to a Giannis trade. With what we would have to give up it’s not worth it. There will be another star that becomes available if we just be patient.
I'm firmly in the camp of needing a superstar to contend but I don't think going after Giannis is the right idea. Realistically we wouldn't be contenders this year, adding a top 3 player to a bunch of 20 year olds who have never been in the playoffs is not a real contender. So then the question becomes "how long would it take?" How long would we have to wait before our guys have enough playoff experience, and are entering their prime, and are actually good enough and ready to win a championship. And once we get there, is Giannis still a top 3 player in the league? I really doubt it. How old is Giannis at this point? As good as Giannis is, I don't really think it lines up.
I would be disgusted if we gut this team for anybody other than Luka or Shai Chasing 30yr + old players with anything other than picks or FA money sounds gross
I don’t see Amen or Sengun successfully sharing the court with Giannis. He needs 4 shooters around him and would play about 40 minutes in the playoffs. Sengun, Thompson, (Landale or Holiday) as salary filler, and a pick package would seem like the natural package for an off-season trade. This seemed more attractive at the beginning of the season when we had hope that Jalen had taken a big step. Having a young star SG to pair with Giannis is exciting. Unfortunately, Jalen is as big of a question mark as ever and potentially blowing our load to pair an older superstar with a Malik Monk or Jordan Clarkson, in pursuit of a championship, could be disastrous. This would be the team Van-Vleet / Sheppard Green Brooks / Whitmore Eason / Smith Giannis / Adams We'd seemingly be banking on one of the young players making a huge leap for that team to be a real contender against the Celtics/Cavs/Thunder/Nuggets. It's a risk, but we're also far from guaranteed to grow into a contender standing pat.
Giannis is not a player who is going to age well so anyone who is trading for him is looking to lock in about a 3 year championship window. If it works, it would be worth it, if it doesn't work, it would be a really bad move.
Would be the dumbest trade ever. Sengun alone will be better than Giannis, and will have a better career (barring injuries). Sengun will be in the MVP conversation within the next three years. And Amen Thompson will be in the defensive player of the year conversation. Jalen/Jabari and picks for Giannis in the offseason? Maybe.
We're 10-4. Players are developing. Team defense is great. Is trading for a superstar like Giannis really the way to get there? Do we have the shooters around him? Reed's not ready. Jabari's not been the lights out shooter. Amen's not a shooter. Tari's up and down (shooting wise). If we get Giannis, aren't we really turning over the franchise to this guy? Is that what we really want? We spent too many years being patient, if we're going to make a major move, it better be the right one
No thanks. Let the young guns grow and learn. Giannis needs knock down shooting around him - something the Rockets do not have at all. You'd give up depth and youth for a flawed roster. Hard pass.
Sorry but no. I still like what Rockets have. Let these players simmer for a while more. Sengun and Green will be the future. Both are finding their groove now. GS got to where they are now by letting their main guys simmer for several years.
If the Rockets were to make a trade, I'd say a knock down perimeter shooter/playmaker to either replace FVV or Jalen Green. I like our front court depth and players as is.
Everyone keeps saying this but the Rockets are only 23 and younger, there's no reason one of them can't be a superstar. Sengun for example has improved every year and shows no sign of hitting a wall or stopping. Same with Tari and Amen. Even Jalen has shown improvement on defense and has a career high in fts and finishing 0-3 ft from the basket.
Yeah, the superstar could already be on the team. I just meant we need one, it could be a trade or it could be a massive leap from one of our guys. Personally, I don't see it in any of the guys on our roster, I think its off topic for this thread so we don't need to debate that here. And I could be wrong, I've been wrong before, and hope that I am wrong. What I meant by "needing a superstar to contend" is that there are some who believe we can contend and win a title without a true superstar, and I'm not in that camp.
Pistons did it, and Sacramento could have done it if they didnt get cheated. Imagine if the 2004 Pistons got assembled at age 23 instead of age 33. I think they would be contenders for a long time and win 3+ rings. I think with players getting injured more and more winning rings now may be a matter of having as wide open window as long as possible thats why I dont want an old player like Giannis.
