Can you expound a little on why this offends you? Are you ghetto, but have a strong moral and/or social stance against hickeys? Or are you a staunch supporter of hickeys, but vehemently disagree with being/acting ghetto? Inquiring minds want to know!
Don't apologize. If someone is getting offended over the word "ghetto"... well then, I've lost all hope for humanity.
Gosh! Why can't you people understand that sometimes passion gets out of control. I agree, having a hickey somewhere that other people can see is trashy.
Alot of people consider ghetto to mean 'of the ghetto' or 'from the ghetto' which i don't think is anything to be looked down upon, as opposed to stupid or immature as the term seems to be used in place of here and more often nowadays.
Edit : I don't think it is offensive. Ahh I'm going back to sleep this medicine from the wisdom teeth pulling has me typing nonsense.
Like I said, I probably should have used a better word such as trashy. Poor choice of words...that is all. Before you say that I'm probably a white girl from burbs, that's far from the truth. I'm from the hood and hispanic so I've seen PLENTY. So that's probably why I termed it "ghetto". Oh NOES! A white person reported me!
I don't think there is anything wrong with being "from the ghetto", per se. However, I do think that the term "ghetto", or "acting ghetto", has taken on a colloquial meaning of being, or acting, in a manner that is low-class, or devoid of manner and etiquette. In my personal experience, this meaning is pretty common, and usually the assumed meaning if someone uses the word "ghetto" in that context.
Trashy. My wife calls it WT (white trash) even on non-white people. She used to say ghetto but quit after high school. Ghetto is the equivalent to a younger generation of saying trashy etc. No offense should be taken. Anyway, it is definitely distasteful. I always am amazed by some 25 year old girl who wants to get out of the waiting business who has a hickey on her neck, some jacked up makeup, and slutty clothes. Maybe you're born to wait tables.
