**** that actually, get rid of the jump ball completely. use the coin toss like football to decide opening possession. this rule is so tainted
I prefer it over the possession-arrow rule in college. At least when it rewards defenses who make a play and tie up the ball by giving them an opportunity to take possession of the ball, rather than the alternation between teams.
i like it, except in overtime. what if? wait me out.... instead of tipping it off, they have to shoot an uncontested three point shot. If he makes it, he gets the ball and gets the option to shoot 2 more free throws, but if he misses one of those free throws, it's 3 points to the other team. thanks for reading.

Horrible idea, possession arrow is awful. I'd be okay with getting rid of it if a better alternative was implemented.
Possession arrow is terrible, but come to think of it, what is the benefit of the jump ball at the opening tip? It's not like football where having possession at the beginning of a half can have a dramatic effect on scoring. Other than tie-ups and the beginning of overtime, is the jump ball really necessary?
You should have to play another game completely to determine who gets the ball for the real game. A game within a game. Like Inception.
