I think he is finding his groove Scorpian King was a decent 1st effort Walking Tall was by far his most horrendous effort didn't see GridIron Gang However Get Smart, The GamePlan were decent efforts I even liked The Rundown Never saw Be Cool either Rocket River
This was by far his best role as a clueless campy gay bodyguard. This made me root for him as an actor, and the fact that he would take a role that could have been kind of a dangerous role, make me re-examine him as a real actor. From strictly his career point of view, it was his most important movie. If you look at the quality of his acting, it has actually gone from ‘Poor guy is out of his league’ in Scorpion King (where he actually did the wrestling 'eye thing' a couple of times) to, ‘he’s really trying to make a go of this', to finally where I think he’s relatively decent and actually underrated. He does a nice job with the ad-lib cameo in Reno 911:Miami, and even though it is a really crappy movie, he does a legitimately good acting job with what he has in Southland Tales. IMO, he really has become a credible film actor. He's not going to be doing Shakespeare anytime soon, but he already has more skill than crappy actors who somehow keep getting work like Keaneau Reeves, Mark Wahlberg, or Kevin Costner, and you can see that he is actually committed to becoming a credible actor, unlike the wooden performances that those three have continued to churn out year after year.
I think The Rock is a pretty passable actor. Even though Walking Tall is a terrible, terrible movie, it's watchable because he's got a great on-screen presence, even if the writing is turrrible. I'm pretty anxious to see this flick though, being a huge fan of Steve Carrell and Anne Hathaway's boobs.
