He would rather have no-stat all-stars on cheap contracts like Battier, David Andersen, and Hayes. A team full of moneyball scrubs can only get you so far. How often have they won? Imagine the former championship teams Lakers with Battier and Hayes instead of Gasol and Kobe or the Celtics with Battier/Landry/Hayes instead of Pierce, Allen, and Garnett or even the Pistons with Hayes and Brooks instead of Rasheed and Billups. A team with no-stat all-stars and no stars can only get you to the lottery like this year's Rockets team of no-stat all-stars on the squad.
im not saying we're going to sign anyone, premier free agent or not. im saying the signing of ariza was not a smart one, imo. ariza isnt worth his contract and it's now just another 7mil dent in our cap we cant really get rid of for the next few years. we should sit tight, gather assets that can actually put us in a position to do something. who the heck would want ariza? @ 7mil? for many more years? how does this relate to this thread? the point being that we signed ariza because we couldnt get artest to settle in on a deal. portland signed andre miller because they couldnt get hedo turkeyglue. BUT, andre has turned out way better for the blazers than ariza has for us. dont sign anyone, bosh or jj, just because they are our only options. as far has his worth, you cant use the 'he was on a championship team' argument because he was crappy before that playoff run and he's been crappy after. true, he's had a solid second half of a season last season but still, imo, not worth his contract.
Too much to give up for Bosh.. and as for giving up David Andersen, I'd be more than happy to do that
It relates to your post because of the salary cap implications that you brought up for getting Ariza. The Ariza signing had zero impact on the Rockets ability to sign other players, so you were wrong about the implications. Either way, the Rockets still have only the MLE available.
You can't even figured out how not signing Bosh or JJ makes the team better. You just say it's not worth it. You compare them to Ariza signing. A trade for a 4-5 time all-star is a lot different than signing Brickiza to a mid-level exception.
I might agree on the Bosh signing, but hell no to trading for JJ. JJ supporters bring up KG, Allen, Pierce and even Gasol as excuse. However look at the stats of those guys in the playoffs they were actually pretty good, the talent gap between their team and the opponent's was just too big. JJ on the other hand has been playing like crap during the playoff teams aside. His stats might go up if he's on a better team, however for that price I'd rather have a consistent weapon like KM at half the cost...
