Can we just stop? We don’t have Mobley or Allen and never will. Maybe Wood could play SF if we had a legitimate Big to protect the rim. Sengun is not that player, yet, but does a decent job and sets really good picks. What if we kept Wood, drafted Chet. Would a lineup of KPJ, Green (or Jaygup), Wood, Sengun and Chet just be too slow to compete? I don’t think it would work, but think it’s a bit fun to think about. Maybe a better fit would be Duren, who is super athletic with virtually no offensive game. A lineup of KPJ, Green, Wood, Sengun, Duren would be really interesting as well, although Duren would clog the lane on offense.

Miami doesn’t seem like a good trading partner

they won’t be offering Herro for obvious reasons, and Duncan Robinson does not make sense for the Rockets

he is paid too much…paying a 1 dimensional shooter 18 mil/yr is whatever when you’re a contender and already over the cap…Rockets don’t qualify for that category

Are we going to get 3 or 4 FRPs though?

I have my criticisms of Wood, but he's still our #1 offensive option. How Riley going to ask for our #1 option without giving up picks. If he's only offering a Robinson (specialist), he better be giving pick(s). :D

It makes me think Riley is not serious. MIA can make noise in the playoffs, but as constructed, they're not among the favorites.

Neither Duren, Chet or Paolo would be my targets, too limited in switch defense.

Jabari Smith is best 2 way big in 2022 draft class but he's going 1st overall.

And I prefer Nzosa's or Damion Collins switchability, bounce and length over Duren.

But I'd rather draft Ivey or trade down for AJ Griffin.

Draft the high IQ, most skilled 2 way players.

But if acquiring triple towers is goal, then trade for Myles Turner and Ben Simmons.

    6'5 KPJ/6'4 Green/6'4 Nix
    6'3 EGo/6'3 Jaygup/6'2 Snipa
    6'10 Simmons/6'5 Mathews
    6'10 Wood/6'6 KJ
    6'11 Turner/6'9 Sengun

Use Wall, Tate, Garuba, Nwaba, Theis, Agustin and FRP to make trades for Simmons and Turner.

2023 is actually the better draft IMO.

only works as a 3-way or with multiple FRPs.

Those guys won’t get you either of Turner or Simmons, much less both. I wasn’t really advocating for a 3 tower offense, just responding to the suggestion that Wood become a SF and we keep him. The only way to keep Wood and start to be competitive is to get a big that can guard the rim and set a pick.

I didn’t put Jabari in the conversation, because I don’t think we are going to get the no. 1 pick. I’m not sure we are even going to be picking in the top 5, unless we trade Wood and Gordon. Other teams are joining the tankathon. KPJ’s progression alone is probably going to net us about a 30% winning percentage the rest of the way if we keep Wood and Gordan. If we are through tanking then we should be all in on getting Turner or Patrick Williams with multiple firsts and any of a couple of our players not named Porter, Green, Sengun, or JC. Everybody else should be available with 2 or 3 of our non Rocket picks as necessary. I don’t want Ivey, because I believe that KPJ, JC, Matthews, Green are our backcourt of the future.

Target should still be Myles Turner. He would complement both Wood AND Sengun.

And neither KPJ, Jaygup, GM, Snipa and especially Green are as good defensively as Ivey.

I just want more smart skilled 2 way players. Silas is less likely to F up the smart skilled 2 way players.

And such players over 6'6 would be beautiful but Stone seems to struggle with hitting on those players, while Silas has no clue how to incorporate them into his system (e.g. Theis, Garuba, Sengun, etc.).

I like Jabari Smith. He's got some flashes of Durant. There's no awkwardness in what he does. Rockets need to go for big PGs after that. I'm still positive that the Rockets will get Smith.

He would do very well in Miami. He can be an absolute difference maker in the right situation. It feels like Houston might not be the answer for him. Hopefully Miami is willing to pay up, because you don’t just give a guy like that away. As frustrating as he is at times, the dude has some real skills.

Chet can give Rockets what they already get in Wood except more efficient offensively (fewer turnovers) and more effective defensively (rim protection).

And Chet is taller (7'1 vs 6'10), longer (7'6 vs 7'5 wingspan) and better 3ball shooter.

Wood is more aggressive shooter however.

But Rockets cannot just replace Wood for Chet, they need MULTIPLE bigs in starting lineup that are not liabilities in switch defense.

Trading Wood requires getting another starting caliber big in return IMO.
