The entire team is bad on defense - it is a team thing....not a Wood thing.

I think a more apt comparison is with KAT or young Kevin Love. Both had extremely gaudy stats, both were walking double-doubles but their teams just didn't win.

 

A big man that sucks at D/ or doesn't try at the D is a big nono. Rookies make mental defensive errors that is fine, this dude letting shooters get wide open shots.

 

Might as well play Theis instead of Wood as long as he is still here.

The Rockets problem is they don't focus on the defensive side of the ball. I just listened to Silas's Postgame and HE NEVER MENTIONED ANYTHING ABOUT MISSING DEFENSIVE ASSIGNMENTS

 

This is a cop out answer. It's not mutually exclusive - you can have your team defense be bad and your individual defense be bad, too.

 

Keep propping him, that way he is pretty much a goner.

 

If he stays he stays and he will definitely put up numbers, but the longer I see watch CWood play the more I become aware of his shortcomings as a player. Playing with a Harden/Lebron type will unlock his game, but even then I think that his lack of focus and positional IQ will hinder him from being a star on a contending team—or possibly even a playoff contender.

Wood is at his best when he’s not asked to do too much. He disappears in big moments or forces weird shots. He doesn’t hustle on the defensive glass. Maybe playing with a hyper-focused superstar will bring about a change in him, but as it stands now I don’t really think he’s helping in the development of our young guys.

 

They played well on the defensive side of the ball during the 7-game win streak but since then, it's been down hill.

And it's not just Wood, it's team wide; bad angels, missed assignments, and flat out not paying attention to cutters

 

I'll go one better, he got out rebounded by a PG the majority of people on this board considers a scrub.

 

Man is a robin, trying to b a batman but doing as little as possible.

 

Wood has no HEART he is weak and always acting like he hurt his ankle. Every time he play against BIG TIME PLAYERS he get soft

It's possible to be a good defender and still be part of a bad defensive team. Wood doesn't communicate on defense, he leaves people wide open, and he is weak against stronger players. Wood is a bad defensive player, good or no team defense. He does the Russell Westbrook thing of ball watching.

Ironically, the same people who point out how flawed Wood is when it comes to Defense, aggression, and his negative attitude… are going to be the same ones disappointed in the return we get for Wood.

These GM’s will be analyzing plenty of game tape when it comes to potential trade targets.

Let’s just hope a team that feels like getting Wood on a team with Championship aspirations will straighten him out…. And that team will be willing to pay what we consider fair value
