Oh well...I'd rather lose 1-5 once than 0-1 five times... And at the World Cup, we will kick them out again in the penalty-shootout!!!!!!!!!
I am a freakin prophet or what? Ok Ok I said 2-1 not 5-1, but who thought the Brits would put that kind of ass whippin' on the Hun. Man...I told you there was no answer to Owen. England is sending a message to the rest of the world. They toyed with the Germans. Youth League Soccer - $120 per season. MLS game - $35 London Pub, England 5 Germany 1.....priceless.....
Hell yeah that was amazing. I really like England. One of my favorites , i really didnt think they could win today against germany. They KICKED SOME ASS!! Wheres JOVI?
Just to put things into perspective...Germany is still leading that World Cup qualification group and England still has to win both their remaining games to have a chance to win the group, provided that Germany beats Finland. And the 2nd in the group will still go to the World Cup if they beat Ukraine or Belorussia in a decisive match (which both England or Germany would do). And as I said, I'd rather lose in the qualification for the World Cup and then kick them out AT the World Cup, as usual, than vice versa.
When Germany won the World Cup title 1954, they lost in the first round to Hungary 3:8...then they beat them in the final 3:2... make your opponents feel safe, and then...BOOOOM.
Det, I think you are reaching on this one. No way England should have beaten up on your boys like that. I think it just shows how far Germany has fallen.
Well, it definitely was an ugly and embarrassing loss...but it only counts for 3 points, just as Germany got 3 points by beating England 1:0 in Wembley (by the way, whatever happens, the shame of losing the last game ever at Wembley to Germany will never go away ). As I said, Germany still has 3 more points than England in that group (with one more game played), so, if England doesn't win their last two (easy) games, this win was worth nothing. Concerning yesterday's match, it was also very unfortunate for the Germans...England made a somewhat lucky goal just before halftime, then Germany comes out and wants to strike back and immediately gets another one due to an individual mistake by a German player (all goals came after silly individual mistakes)...then, when you are behind 1-3 on home turf, of course you have to try everything and neglect your defense...then, of course, the floodgates are open with players like Owen, Heskey and Gerrard who are very quick and great counter-attack players. As a matter of fact, I think Owen, Beckham, Heskey and Gerrard are very "untypical" for English football...a new breed...when I think about English football, guys like this Tony Adams defender are on my mind...but now they have more finesse players...great players. Still, we will beat them at the World Cup and send them home crying...if they even get there...and then "The Sun" will write the same crap about the "German Tanks" again... Jovi is right, English tabloids are at levels so low you cannot even imagine (but sometimes they have nice page three girls ).
I´m back. Oh well! I fortunately was on a wedding on Saturday and could not watch the game. We probably were the only Germans that had a pleasant night. By the way, what a dumb date to schedule a wedding. Not only that everyone wanted to watch the game, but just remember Septemer 61 back in 1939. I would call the fiasco a national disgrace, but the English would´t be the English if they can´t find a way NOT to benefit of the win. Just like the European Championship last year, where they edged Germany before blowing the third group game and not qualifying for the quarter-finals. Look for Greece to win at least one point... By the way, it´s very sad to read British tabloids at the moment. Their sub-par niveau is so riduculous. Just look at the fact that they have to mention to war everytime. What concerns me more is the fact that they can sell papers with that crap. Like one German columnist pointed out: For some reason, they still fear the re-united Germany, on and off the pitch...
Jovi, am I mistaken or did you write this article? http://sports.yahoo.com/m/world/news/20010902/germanreac.html
I sympathise with what you are saying about the English tabloids (many of which are owned by a bunch of lousy Australians! ; ), Jovi. To bring up WWII in a sporting context is like mentioning the genocide of native Americans by Anglos everytime the Washington Redskins football team plays. Still, it is somewhat understandable that the UK (not to mention France, or Poland) is anxious about a re-united Germany. WWII did not happen that long ago, really. I wouldn't begrudge people from Dresden for still hating the US and UK, either. Once the WWII generation is gone maybe people will chill out, but national memories last a long time. This is an extreme example, but the Serbians are still pissed off at the Turks and Albanians for a battle they lost in Kosovo in *1389*. You probably know all of this anyway, so I'll shut up now. -Elvis, who only took a cheap shot at Australians due to the influence of my Kiwi fiancee and a heartbreaking rugby loss by the All Blacks to the dread Aussies at the Tri-Nations cup.
Det...why don´t you drop me an email Elvis, you´re right about those deep-rooted feelings. Unfortunately, there´s nothing you can do about it... it´s a shame!
THis article is pretty damn perfect: http://foxsportsworld.com/world/soccer/s010830_elliott.htm I like the English national team, btw, the rainbow press is doing all the damage...
I'll apologize in advance for my refusal to let go. But, I don't think my brief overview was inaccurate at all. (1) I mentioned Dunkirk only because it was the Brits only opportunity to meet the Germans without the Americans in WWII. And it wasn't so much the French quitting early as it was their getting completely whupped. Btw, the English army only managed to escape because so many Frenchmen sacrificed their lives to cover the retreat. (2) I am surprised (to say the least) to see someone claim that the Americans simply chose not to occupy Berlin. The Soviets and Americans were racing one another to capture Berlin. They both knew that holding Berlin would be a major chip in controlling the postwar world. The Soviets won that race and were able to take half of Germany because of it. Had the Americans beat them to it, the Soviets would have been cut out of the government of Germany entirely.
How about the 'Battle of Britain?' How about the Egyptian campaign? Rommel got taken to the woodshed by Monty, who I personally believe was an inferior general. And that was one-on-one without the loser Frogs screwing things up. A much better example that proves you incorrect. There was some gallant action by particular French units to cover the English retreat, however, France itself started negotiations with the Germans almost immediately after Leopold bowed out in Belgium. It was fairly early considering the amount of territory German had conquered that was actually French. Ridiculous. All through the Battle of France and the race to the Rhein Eisenhower held Patton and the 3rd Army back. Eisenhower argued it was better to let the Russians take the casualties in Berlin since the Germans were going to fight until the end and since the Russians wanted it so much. Your assertion about Berlin is silly. If it was true then why did the US get half of Germany, if whoever controlled Berlin controlled the country? And this just isn't factual. If you persist in remaking history then you can go find a Russian text to quote about your version of history. You won't find a source in the West that says anything like that. Just as a French unit was allowed to lead the 'liberation' of Paris, so the Russians (who'd taken so many casualties from the Germans) were given first crack at breaking Berlin.
It´s not good for a German to say this and I know you will jump at me, but HISTORICALLY speaking, the Germans had the chance to close the British out at Dunkirk but for some reasons, Hitler decided against it. Whether it was respect or the fact that he considerem them Aryan as well, I don´t know. That´s pure history. Don´t jump on me.
hello again jovi.. dunkirk:as said here on this bbs before 'if my aunt had balls she would be my uncle' scoreboard england 5-1..scoreboard england WWII.. and yes many people are still worried about a unified germany on and off the pitch..
