It is just one idiot army instructor who watched too many van Damme or Steven Seagal or Rambo movies or whatever. It's not "the Germans".

Not true at all. The word for blacks used to be "Neger" which is not the same as the "N" word in the US - it is more like "Negro", but recently, it has become un-PC to use it and I don't really know anyone who uses it.

Completely untrue. I don't look like the average German at all and have never experienced any racism in 35 years in Germany (other than other little kids in in kindergarden calling me "little chinese" which resulted in a beating which settled that matter). Obviously, as in any other country, there will be racists (unfortunately), but to say "racism and discrimination is prevalent in most parts of Germany is simply factually incorrect.

This is correct, but how is this discrimination...people from the East and West used to mock each other a bit after re-unification as "Easties" and "Westies" (Ossi/Wessi), how is that different from Southerners and East Coast people making fun of each others' habits/slangs. That's not racism or discrimination.

Fortunately, your experience has been quite different from numerous other residents and visitors to Germany that I have spoken with. For the most part, the German people I have personally met seem to be very accepting and many of them have travelled across the world so they are quite cultured and tolerant of racial differences.

But there are undoubtedly a lot of Germans who just absolutely hate non-whites, Jews, and Muslims. From the eastern parts of Berlin to towns in Nordrhein Westphalia to Hamburg to Baden-Wurtemburg, you have neo-nazi groups growing stronger and documented incidents of hate crimes every year.

And there seems to be a strong undertone of resentment towards the growing population of people of foreign descent in Germany. That's just the feeling I got when I lived there for a few months last year. I saw blacks being denied drinks in bars and several times, Turks being followed around by security guards in stores. A black university student from Senegal who was staying in the same hostel as me for a while could not find any housing there after a 5 week searcj because every apartment landlord he met with in Muenster automatically turned him down. He said he had heard every possible excuse including "I have no problem with you personally it's just that my wife does not want Negers living in the flat."
