I am not going to waste my time with a dude who dont know the difference between a legal screen and an elbow sticks out to a player's chest.

Wallace knew the contact is coming but he didn't expect an elbow, ok?
Basketball is a game of contact, so he knew the contact is coming, what Wallace gonna do? Throw the ball back to 3 point line instead going for a dunk? Is a dirty play no doubt about it and Bynum deserve one game suspension. No one go for the block or charge with their backs facing the offensive player with their elbow raise above his head!

He won't be suspended because he is on the Lakers. And I'm surprised the issue of whether it was a cheap shot or not was not even discussed on ESPN. If it was Artest, he'd be suspended for the season.

rofl now this is just getting ridiculous. even the lakers announcers said bynum wasn't making a play on the ball and called it a dangerous play. the quote from the lakers forum is just insane. i didn't know proper defensive position included turning your hip into the player and extending a forearm into the body. bynum wasn't even looking at the ball when he fouled him. and how in the world can you say wallace was trying to draw a foul when he goes straight up and straight towards the basket with both arms in the air going for a dunk. bynum was the guy who moved into him....how is this so hard for you to see? this is just dumb if you are so biased that you can't even see what happened. again, even the lakers announcers got it right when they first called it but you have watched the play over and over again but can't accept reality.

For the record, OCballfan, no one has anyi idea when you're being sarcastic. Dampier's foul was flagrant, but to compare that to what Bynum did to Wallace is insane. Dampier got to the play in time but didn't make a play on the ball. Bynum should've realized he wasn't going to make a play on the ball and should've tried taking the charge if anything.

And to compare that to Ariza getting hit on a legal pick is ridiculous.

Interesing story, I actually have collapsed my lung twice. The first time it was the left, the second my right. The first time they only gave me oxygen and it healed itself, but the next time they had to put in a chest tube and inflate it back up. Unlike Wallace however mine were naturally occuring ( the technical term being spontaneous pnuemothorax). I hope he gets well soon it took me a while to recover from mine ( I'm a swimmer and it took me about 3-4 weeks to get back in shape) but with all the trainers Wallace is sure to get i would say he could make it back to the court within 3 weeks even if his stamina isnt quite there. The hardest part is the pain with the chest tube i guarantee his chest will be sore for a while and if he takes any deep breaths.

You could see he was struggling to breathe whilst he lay on the floor, the pain would have been extreme...

What was the call from the refs for that play?

Bynum is guilty as hell for deliberate attempt to injure in my book.

that's dumb, you guys just hate bynum just cause he's a laker and will bring lot problems for the rockets. if you watch the video closely, you can see that bynum was shying away from making direct contact to hurt wallace, it obviously wasn't intentional, so many idiots on this board

They said its deserving of a flagrant but did they think he'll be suspended no? That poster said that he was TRYING to get into proper defensive position but realized he couldn't and hence put his arms out and turned his body so that there wouldn't be a knee to Bynum's chest or face

He was shying away alright. But he was trying to avoid hurting Wallace. He's trying to avoid being hurt by Wallace. If he was trying to protect the guy in mid air, he would have just ducked out. A lot of defenders do that when they know they have no chance of blocking a flying dunker.

But Bynum didn't just duck out. He stuck his arm out. Oh no, he didn't dare just to stick his arm out because that might hurt, that might dislocate his shoulder. So he stuck his elbow out on the body of the guy who had no way of protecting himself.

Did he intentionally try to hurt Wallace? Perhaps. Intentionally puncture his lung? Not really. But that was clearly a cowardly cheap play.

For those who say that was just a hard foul, that's BS. A hard foul is when you go hard toward the ball and if you miss the ball, you still hit the guy hard enough to prevent a basket. A hard foul risk your own body as much as the guy you hit. Bynum was obviously not going for the ball. He was not risking his own body at all.

so u r suggesting, when the contact was made, bynum purposely tried to hurt wallace, had perfection control of his body with elbow to the ribs while avoiding to hurt himself, does that sound like a bit of unlikely to u? or is it more logical to say while wallace charged in fast, bynum, as a center and did what he was suppose to do, that he fouled to avoid an easy basket, unfortunately, because of wallace jumped in so fast and bynum did not have the time to set himself up to take a charge nor block the shot, his foul appeared to be a flagrant even though it's really just a hard foul, watch the video in slow motion, bynum was trying to protect himself from wallace by raising the arms in the air

    Your comprehension is quite poor.
Where did I say he had perfect control of his body? I said he shied away from the contact, but still wanted to stop Wallace, so he stuck out his elbow.

What part did you not understand about my explanation of a hard foul? The difference between a hard foul and an ordinary foul is only in the force of the foul (hence "hard"). A legitimate foul, hard or not, is one that goes for the ball. A flagrant foul is NOT a legitimate hard foul because it does not aim for the ball but the body. If you intentionally hit the body without even trying to hit the ball, then that's a flagrant.

If you are out of position, you don't just blindly hit the body. That's dangerous. That's why it is a flagrant. A flagrant 1 foul does not have to have the intention to seriously hurt someone. If it is a dangerous action that has the potential of injuring, that is enough for a flagrant. Even in situation like a fast break when sometimes the defender just grabs the body to prevent an easy layup, they don't just blindly hit. They grab in a way to prevent dangerous falling.

A raised arm cannot puncture a lung. An elbow can. Watch the video. It's not the whole arm. It's the elbow. Raising the arm is a natural reflex. Raising the elbow is intentional.

    To all laker fans.

Wallace was absolutely wrong. He knew nothing about basketball. He shouldn't attack the basket. Bynum was just trying an hard foul. And it was not hard enough. He should smash a Thai boxing elbow-knee combo and killed that Wallace.

Laker fans, are you happy with this??

Exactly. You have to remember that Andrew Bynum is still just a kid...only what, 21 yrs old? Obviously he doesn't know his own strength. He got beat, then just decided to slam into Wallace to avoid the easy 2. Bynum certainly didn't look like he was trying to end Wallace's career, I mean he wasn't even looking at him in the pic! I have to say though, Bynum should still be fined and suspended a few games for what happened to Wallace.

21 is still a kid

18 is when you become an adult, they're all adults in the NBA, I know damn well (I'm 20) that I don't go out with my elbow to meet a guy, I like the lakers as well but Bynum was completely at fault for Wallace's horrendous injury.

I don't have a problem with them not suspending him.
