I can't say what Bynum's intent was on this play, besides attempting to foul him. However, his elbow to the ribs was nowhere near the ball, and it definitely looked like a flagrant foul. He should be suspended and/or fined.

Hope the man's ok. Charlotte needs him.

Seeing the video and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was. Before I seen the videos one of my boys texted me saying Bynum speared Wallace in the air like he was Goldberg, so I was expecting something much worse than I saw.

This sure doesn't look like he was going for the block...looks like a man that got beat and was trying to stop him from getting to the basket

Bynum should be suspended, I watched it last night, he was not going for the ball.

And he tossed his ELBOWS into a guys ribs....that is the definition of a cheap shot.

I saw the play when it happened and several replays. Bynum should be suspended. When players have no chance for a play on the ball, it does not give them a blank check to do anything possible to stop a basket. In fact, this is exactly when the worst flagrant fouls occur. The intent to hurt is only part of it. Al Horford didn't intend to hurt T.J. Ford last year.

Don't try to argue with him. That's typical Lakers fans. In fact, the whole Lakers organization is kind of like that.

I love how the announcer said, "That's a dangerous play. When you have your hands above your head, you are exposing your rib cage." LOL. How are you suppose to do a driving layup/dunk without "exposing your rib cage"?

To be fair, I don't think Bynum intended to hurt Wallace that badly. He just made a cheap and dumb shot when he was caught not moving his feet fast enough for his defensive play.

    Fixed?

That was a cheap shot. Period. There was no play WHATSOEVER on the ball.

suspend a few games? No. I think he should be suspended the same amount of games that wallace misses while recovering.

It looked to me like Bynum was trying to grab his arms before Wallace could get them up high, and wrap him up. Unfortunately, Wallace was too quick for Bynum and got up faster than Bynum expected. Not an excuse; it should still be a suspension.

Reminds me of defensive pass interference in football. Bynum clearly wasn't going for the ball ;)

bynum should be suspended, regardless of 'intent'- he made a stupid play that could have been avoided and should have been because of the rules in place. I don't think that he should be suspended for the same time as Wallace's recovery period, but I think that he should be sat to learn a lesson.

The guy has a COLLAPSED LUNG. without proper attention, that can be LIFE THREATENING. It doesn't matter who you're a fan of, you have to respect the game and make sure guys play the right way. It seems like bynum was trying to 'box out' wallace (even though he hadn't even taken the shot obviously) to get the rebound. Thats just a stupid play. You need to recognize that if an athletic guard is charging down the lane, then you need to anticipate him to continue to move towards the basket, not expect him to pull up and take the jumper. Also, bynum needs to realize that he got beat and sticking out the elbow can result in dangerous situations.

Regardless of what actions were taken, I'm sure the lesson will stick with bynum if he gets suspended for a few games.

flagrant 1. Should merit suspension though because, as a big dude, you need to realize that a flagrant 1 from you can be dangerous.

Bynum should and will get suspended/fined.

the Lakers now begin their grueling road trip in which they play 22 of the next 31 on the road. hopefully they lose AB for the first game and their chemistry is off... (to give hime credit, AB has been playing like a beast- player of the week, 4 straight double-doubles)

    Here Come the Lakers!

back down to Earth, that is...

it didn't look like a cheap shot but it was definately a flagrant.. he didn't go for the ball but at the same time i don't think he was trying to hurt him either

I didn't think it was that bad, of course the outcome was that it was. I think if anything a game suspension would suffice. Cheap shot yes. Personally, I wouldn't go too much past that.

He should have just tried to wrap him up if he was preventing a dunk/layup. Then again, it's easy to say that when I'm not the one out there playing at that moment.

You know there is a reason why Wallace is nicknamed "Crash", the man puts himself in dangerous positions. IF you were Bynum what would you've done, considering its a close game? leave the runway open for takeoff? Obviously Bynum couldn't get there quick enough to put his body in front of him to draw a charge, hence put extended his arms out.

Are you joking? You can put your hands up and deliver a hard foul with the body, but at least make a play on the ball. He made no such attempt- he swung his elbows into the Gerald when he was mid-air to throw him off his shot. It was terrible- and I'm glad they lost to the surging Bobcats.

I'm sure if Artest or Yao did that same play to Kobe, it would be a totally different story.

Tell me that if Okafor had done the EXACT same thing to Kobe with the EXACT same result you still don't think a suspension would be merited.
