I love this trade. I was hoping for Green months ago when I saw he wasn't playing in Minnesota. I hope he gets a chance to fill Bonzi's spot.
If Chris Richard isn't part of this deal, then the only other way that it is possible is if the Rockets generated a large enough trade exception in the Bobby Jackson trade to absorb Gerald Green's salary, in which case it would be (technically) TWO separate trades: Trade #1: Kirk Snyder to Minnesota for its trade exception (Ricky Davis/Mark Blount trade); THEN Trade #2: Gerald Green to Houston for its trade exception (Bobby Jackson trade) and a second round pick.
I don't get all the positive reaction in this thread. Maybe smoothie's 'Election Day' theory holds some weight.
To be honest, this trade makes no sense to me. Why would we give up an expiring contract and a 2nd round pick for another expiring contract? Of coures Green has potential, but is he even going to have the oppurtunity to show them? I don't see him getting anymore time than Snyder did. If he doesn't get a chance to play then as far as I see it....we gave up a 2nd round pick for nothing, and have less coming off the books at the end of the year. The only thing I can think is they plan on seeing how he does in the D League and, if he does well enough, resigning him. Pugs
Why won't he be here next year? He is on a rookie deal. For a paltry 1.4 million I am sure that we will pick up his option on the fourth year. At the least to build up extra expirings to deal the next year if needed. And he's not that bad. Morey probably had a hand in drafting him in Boston so he must see something in him. There is still potential here. And at the very least, maybe we have someone who could be in the slam dunk contest.
Celly (Houston): Any truth to the rumors of Houston trading Kirk Snyder and a pick for Gerald Green of Minnesota? SportsNation Chad Ford: (2:57 PM ET ) Sounds like there is some truth to that ... Green to Houston for Synder and second round pick. Is Green's value really that low? chad ford seems to think that it is a steal . sure green has potential but we have to wait and see
Giving up a second pick for Green... I think Morey is doing a massive favor for Snyder. Maybe even rewarding him for not going psycho glued to the bench while in his contract year.
Never before has a lateral-at-best move appeased so many fans. It's a splashy move (why I don't know) to take attention away from the fact that we traded away one of our only servicable swingmen to save a buck.
We get his bird rights if I'm not mistaken, so we should easily be able to re-sign him this summer. I don't think it's a lateral move at all.
Yawn. Didn't Doc Rivers really dislike this kid last year on the Celts? I think there were some not so flattering things said about his work ethic.
This trade is nothing more then getting a free look at GG and fulfilling Snyder's wish. If Snyder didn't make any waves, he would have stayed a rocket.
I am excited with Gerald Green acquisition. Here are the pros: - He is super young at barely 22 - He is super athletic (dunk finalist 2 years in a row) - He can shoot 3s pretty well (38.3%) - He is tall at 6-8 for SF or SG (similar to Tmac) - he rebounds well for his minutes - Most importantly, his +/- is actually very good, and I am sure this is what Morey looked at. Look at his game record here : His +/- vis a vis his team members is generally better, which means when he was on the floor, the team played better than otherwise. Obviously one has to watch the game and see whom the other teams were playing, etc. But throughout many games, these tend to be right. My sense is, just based on the stats, his defense is pretty good. All in all, GGreen is a great pickup!
Not sure about BJax at this point but totally agree with the rest. Green may be the first Rocket acquisiton of Morey's that makes sense outside of a spreadsheet.
AND Les gets to save more money! Haha. Seriously though this is good for us, our window for signing a bought-out vet (Barry) just increased. And you think Green won't be motivated to perform? He'll have to do it in practice first.
