yes. it's a low-risk low-reward trade. If JVG were here, it's absolutely impossible that GG could get minutes except in 12th player time. But, RA is a coach with an open mind. GG could become someone if he really work hard, along with a bunch of hardworking guys like Yao, Shane and Rafer.
Why so much negativity over this trade? We got Gerald Green for a scrub like Snyder AND it saves the team some money. It seems like a win-win situation.
Even if he does well here,he will be a UFA and we won't be able to keep him. A marginal improvement on offense over Snyder, but it doesn't help us defensively at all. A low IQ kid who doesn't want to work for minutes is what I see.
So we don't include Aaron Brooks in a alleged trade for Artest based on AB's potential. Now we trade Snyder for a so far unproven high schooler because of potential. Sounds like we're going to continue being a team full of potential and falling short on winning. Ugh...
I said he's more accomplished than Green. I didn't say he was good. Snyder has contributed for a couple of years on NBA teams. Green is not good enough to.
Don't miss this fact to add to the trade Green make $1.4MM Snyder makes $2.4MM Les saves another million with this deal
Green has skills... He's often been compared to McGrady. Maybe this is our future? Hopefully he can pull a T-Mac and become Most Improved Player :]
Green is 21 years old and came straight out of high school I realize he isn't a very good player but there is upside and we gave away nothing
Even with Bonzi traded away, it's apparent that Snyder had no role on this team this year. So, taking a chance on a hometown kid is really very low risk. Most people agree that Green probably could have used some college seasoning, but he was drafted in the 1st round (thought to be a steal at the time) based on potential. I actually like the fact that we got to miss out on his predictable struggles at the beginning of his career. If we're lucky, we swooped in at just the right time when he is gonna gain some humility (going from all-world high school player to a benchwarmer whose traded twice will hopefully give you some) and maturity in his game (as he realizes that he has to do more than dunk). He's got what you want in a project, though: size, athleticism, and youth. The D-league would be perfect for him to get some experience. The loss of a 2nd round pick should not be any big concern. Very few players (and no recent Rockets) ever make it big from the end of the 2nd round, which is where this pick would be. Also, I thought we got a 2nd rounder in the New Orleans trade. As much as I wanted Artest or Miller, I don't think we had the assets to make such a deal. So, all in all, this is a nice save by Morey to make something out of nothing (kinda like Scola).
He bought a 2nd round pick for one million which landed Landry, then sold one 2nd round pikc for one million. Not a bad deal at all.
Wasn't in love with the Bobby Jackson trade but getting Green is full of potential. He has got a weird line though, shoots 33% overall, 38% from the 3 line so if 15% of his shots are layups and dunks his mid-range game must be awful. He is a good FT shooter so I think he can improve his outside shot. Hope he has a renaissance coming back home to Texas.
Green should shoot 40 - 45 % from 3 with the kind of looks he'll get. The guy can D up like a mother. He adds athleticism which we need. GG can get to the hoop,a slasher... Green is 21 and oozing potential. Morey is infinitely familiar with him. The guy's is expiring and could be addded to a deal in the offseason. We needed a 2/3 just like him. He's coming home. And he is insurance/ potential replacement for Tracy....With all thecapspace freed up...let the trade rumors commence in the offseason. Great move Rockets!
He is immature as all 21 year-olds are, but there is a chance that this could be one of the best moves the Rockets have made this season. Just pray that this guy can reach half his potential.......
