To be honest I'm still rooting for this guy like i did with Kelena. He shows promise but doesn't seem to have much going for him than scoring at the moment and at the time we waived him the Rockets really needed someone who could score consistently. We couldn't have picked him up because he was too much of a project. Given that he's got a lot of potential we probably would have wasted a spot on our roster for him. Here's to him playing well and hopefully Dallas shipping out Dirk and Cuban to another team or something.
If its a Texas team thing, I see Green getting time with Dallas or the current sucky Spurs, not on the Rockets. Battier, Artest and Barry would have buried Green deep on the Rockets bench. Again Green's prospects on the Rockets was the Von Wafer spot as 14th-15th guy, and work his way up from there earning his time. Like Dallas is doing. No way any team gets rid of their own Luther Head to make room for him. Still, Green did fit that need for the Rockets last roster spot. If I'm Green and looking at the Rockets I'm thinking - So that Mike Harris guy they let me go for, they didnt even bring him back. Then they keep Von Wafer who plays a position I was trying out for. AND they still only have 14 players on the roster? I better work on my defense then...
Come on, Gerald Green is a million times better than Von Wafer...ROFLMAO !! We could have had him playing behind a gimpy Tmac....Artest would have turned him into a man.... Oh, well he is on a one year contract. DD
Man, I watched Green play in the final minutes of the game against the Cavs recently. The Mavs were getting blown out by about 20 points, so Carlysle emptied his bench. Over the rest of the game, Green looked to shoot every single time he touched the ball, and probably took a shot 3 out of every 4 times -- without even looking to see what his teammates were up to at the moment. In fact, the only times he EVER looked to his teammates were when the Cavs wouldn't let him get a shot. After a series of about 4 straight possessions where he went completely solo, his teammates ended up just standing around with their hands at their sides when he got the ball. Sure, his numbers looked great -- 10 pts in about 15 minutes, including a couple of great moves. But there's a reason Green doesn't stick on rosters, despite all that talent: He's selfish to an extent that it hurts the team. Green makes Mike James look like Jason Kidd in comparison. And I can't say for sure, but I'll bet he's not a very popular guy in the locker room considering how much he ignores everyone on the court. <BR>
Yep. I am also very happy for him! It seems both Kidd and Dirk like him a lot. He is really lucky to play with them. Of course, he has talent. I still cannot understand why the rockets gave up him for Harris.
There's a reason why a guy with so much natural talent has been on so many different teams. I'll leave it at that.
Agree, Green's better than Wafe. Not comparing Green's talent to his. Only his potential ROCKETS spot in the pecking order would be the same. Basically its repeating what other people have mentioned - don't hand Green anything in the NBA, make him earn it so he "gets it". Taking the coaches perspective on it, not so much the fans'. And with that I'da expected him to burst on the Rockets scene later in the year kinda like Carl Landry Which is why I've even put so many posts into this. I thought Green was an easy camp invite with fresh youthful legs to mesh in with the Rockets slow terds but oh well now.
13 pts and 11 rebounds....the kid can play and is only 22 years old.....I hope he comes back to Houston....as I said, he has Tmac like ability. DD
I saw the Dallas game vs. the clips. and I saw Green for what he is. He is a chucker plain and simple. He does not know how to play the game of basketball. All he knows how to do is fire up shots. He is a black hole.
Agreed, he put up good numbers but didn't look like he'd ever fit a system that had an actual "system." He'd be freaking good on the Warriors, though.
I have been watching him all year, he has made significant strides, he is a chucker, but that is his role....wouldn't it be great to have a chucker on the Rockets who...when he chucks....actually makes em? DD
Everyone keeps saying that. "There's a reason why hes been on so many different teams." But yall never give that reason! Talk about one of the most cliche answers ever. Shaq and AI have been on different teams also. Its normal for a youngster that is a late draft pick to bounce around teams until he finds his niche. The fact that hes in a position to play lots of minutes is a big step in his development considering where he was year ago. The kid is still young and has tons of room to grow.
Another thing that I noticed is that he does move with out the ball or defend well. I don't know if it is because of the systems they run in Dallas or just inability to follow a coaches instruction.
