These races are going to be tough. I think Ossoff and Warnock have good chances of winning but it will be close. Trump could either check out of this race as he nurses his bitterness of over losing or he could look at this as a get back at the Democrats. Either way these races are going to be ugly and I pity the people of GA who are going to have to sit through attack ad after attack ad during the Holidays..

I think this will be a major story in the next month.

Trump is transactional. He's looking out for himself. Without the power of the presidency, his ability to grift diminishes. But the power of his cult of personality will hold to January and beyond.

Most republican politicians will be okay or even relieved to be rid of him, but having senate majority is paramount to them now. They'll do anything to keep dems from taking Executive and both houses.

This is where Don can continue to hold sway over repub pols till at least Jan: "Give me what I want (press, money, pardons, protection, new laws, favor within the party) or not only will I not speak on behalf of Loeffler and Purdue, I'll speak against them."

Considering how close GA was last time, it's not a stretch to say that without Trumps' explicit support, the repub candidates lose.

Off-topic I'd like to make another plug here for Ranked Choice Voting aka Instant Runoff Voting. It has numerous benefits which would improve American Democracy in many ways.

One benefit is that it simulates the action of a runoff to gain 50% of the vote in a single election. A ton of money, time and resources is wasted running additional runoffs to have candidates reach 50, and military and absentee voters are at a disadvantage getting another ballot in the mail.

    Other benefits include:
-Eliminates the spoiler effect (repubs are pretty furious right now about the libertarian vote; RCV may have turned some states for them!)
-Incentivizes positive campaigning and disincentives negative campaigning, thus reducing polarization (should be a top priority)
-Makes gerrymandering more difficult, and depending how it's employed, very very difficult.
-Empowers independents, third and fourth parties, and weakens the stranglehold of the DNC and RNC

    With covid cases exploding

Unfortunately there's going to be more pain in Georgia over the next month.

I can't see Georgians voting for 2 people who profited off it.

Since May the Republican controlled Senate has not passed additional funding for a federal covid response. If Georgia re-elects Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, they are rewarding this behavior and likely guaranteeing that there will not be another covid stimulus package. This is a no-brainer messages that the Ds should be able to run on and win with.

Another no-brainer: Biden needs to spend the entire month of December campaigning in Georgia. Without the Senate, Biden will get no meaningful bi-partisan legislation past McConnell. This will have a negative impact on Georgia.

Biden can campaign on a unity message, listing out all of the bi-partisan, non-partisan legislation he could pass if the Georgia elect both Ds in January.

I expect neither no-brainer suggestions to happen, since the Ds have to D. And I expect that at most only one of the two Ds win in January. I give Warnock a 1 in 3 shot of winning.
