2-2 with a walk today, 3 runs scored so far. He's now 3rd in the AL in runs scored...in a what has been a down year thus far.
Thread started last Thursday. OP was advised to wait as Springer was in a slump and based on his historic stats there was no need to move him out of the leadoff spot. Since then: 7 games 35 plate appearances 13 hits 2 walks 1 HBP 13 runs scored 7 RBI 4 HRs .406 BA .457 OBP .781 SLG .1238 OPS This is why Managers tend to not make rash decisions. They know their teams better than we do. EDIT - he also reached base on a catcher's interference which is not factored into the above numbers.
If leading off has in some way contributed to him putting up the above numbers, we should leave him the **** alone. Look at those beautiful numbers...
So, when he's on fire, dont move him cause he's comfortable. But when he's slumping dont move him cause he'll get comfortable later? Interesting logic.
If only you could move guys around based on a game's box score. That would be fun. Fact is: he's putting up numbers where he is on the best team in baseball. I can't believe we are having this discussion.
No...you leave him alone when he is in a slump and has historically put up quality numbers in that position. Assume the following. You took off on a cruise last Wednesday with no Internet access. You come back at 3:00 PM today. Honestly, would you have started this thread?
You guys act like I want him off the team. Or some of you must think he goes into a eternal slump if he bats 5 or 6. Just plain silliness that is.
Maybe not, because I dont start threads to voice my every opinion. Usually whats hottest on the burner. Today, that would be depleted SP depth. But until Springer can steal bases, improve his base running IQ, and be in the top 3 in team OBP, my opinion on Springer leading off isn't going to change. In any case, you have to admit my Springer anti-jinx has worked pretty well.
No. Not off the team. But you are acting like him batting fith or sixth would have made this team noticeably better. Since you have advocated the move, they have won six straight, And are 21 games over .500 (and counting). Not to mention they have scored 15 runs in 2 of the last three games. But we could be better you say. Now that's silly.
