Thats the thing, he has been mediocre except for that year, I think he is great and an entertainer, I have respect for him as a player and his capabilities,I j ust would not want to build around him. That year his team had no stars, but they had a d player of the year and great quality vets who do their jobs and a great coach, otherwise iverson could've led all his teams if it was him carrying that one, that one just ddint have any names.. it is like the Cavs, which everyone says lebron makes them who they are which he is the anchor, btu htey have no other good names so often becoem underrated. Last year, agasint celtics in playoffs, lebron for the first few games set a NBA history playoff record for worst field goal percentage, he sucked it up, yet they won 2 of those games...if he carries the team ,and did so poorly, how did they win? Bc these are quality role players/vets/underrated no names, give them their due
While I have no doubt that AI is probably one of the hardest players in the league to coach or design your offense around due to his size and playing style alone, George Karl has no business ripping on anybody but himself. Furthermore, I hate to break it to everybody but the honeymoon in Denver will end. Denver was destined for mediocrity both before and after the AI/Billups swap. While everybody is praising the Nuggets for making this move they're conveniently forgetting that the Pistons are sitting pretty a 1/2 game out of first place and with big wins against the Lakers and Cleveland since AI's arrival. Not to mention, they won't be the lucky ones paying a 35-year-old Billups nearly $15M/year before his contract finally runs up. I still think this was a masterful, albeit one year rental, move/new start for the Pistons.
