Where do I hail from... where the hail am I from? Born in Florida, don't remember it First memories/ impressions of life in Blacksburg, VA Finished growing up in Memphis, TN Decided I was going to be a Texan: lived in succession in Houston, Austin, a small town in the Hill Country, and San Antonio Moved out to the middle of Alabama, in fairly rural territory south of Birmingham, felt like a fish out of water I now live in the Texas Panhandle. Cold, windy, cow patty country, but I'll settle here for a good while probably. We both have good jobs, and at least it's Texas.

I cannot remember where I was born, but the city was lost anyway in the dust bowl of the 1930s. I do remember being in Houston for the two championships, and now I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area.
I was just in your city. If I had known there were Clutchfans there would've tried to find a bar in Northridge to catch some Rockets games.

Born in New York City. My parents met at the University of Michigan and both my older and younger brother were born in Wyandotte. However, my Dad came to this country on an African Students Program for American Universities/African American Union scholarship in the late '60s/early '70s, and one of the conditions of the scholarship was that he had to work back in his home country, Cameroon, for five years. So after he got his masters in '74, he went there to work for the state oil company, Socame, which I think is now part of Tractebel/Suez. Meanwhile, my Mom was with her half-sisters in New York: whom she'd helped immigrate up here from Haiti, so that's where I was born. Dad went back to Michigan in '79, he'd been working for BASF before and after he went to Cameroon (he went to Germany to do some training at BASF, so my younger brothers godparents were German). But by then he wanted to work exclusively in the energy industry, so he got a job with the Exxon Refinery in Baytown in 1980; so I grew up there from 1980 - 1997. Then I went to U of H, got a job with a pipeline that got acquired and had our departments move back to headquarters in Omaha, so I lived and worked there from 2002 - 2011, until I got job that moved me back here to Houston.
Was Compton a working class white city that got diverse, but then also got an inaccurate reputation for gang warfare specifically because of NWA?
