Me personally I prefer public transit as well. It's too bad that I live in Houston, all we have are buses that may or may not have you waiting an hour. Hopefully we'll get the planned rail lines built.

Why own when you you lease and rent? Who needs all this "equity" stuff?

This is the mindset of the new generation. It's quite frivolous.

    I'm not a gen Y but....

    gas prices -- don't matter
red light cameras -- don't matter
    insurance costs -- don't matter
    speeding tix -- don't matter
    car repairs -- don't matter
parking fees and tickets -- don't matter
traffic and idiot drivers (always the other guy, of course) -- don't matter!

Life's been good since I gave up my car!

(lucky me to live in an area with good transit :p ).

though it would be very weird to date without a car.

I plan on living in a big city, so I probably won't have a car or a house.

Count me as a Gen Yer that rides his bike, uses mass transit, and lives within walking distance of most everything I need in life.

Cars are a headache. If you want to use it as a status symbol, more power to you, but I don't get it.

I sure do love me some rear wheel drive V8's. You should all get into public transport so the roads will be free :)

I probably should stop watching "Top Gear" before I get a sports car. That show is by far my favorite right now.

I'm all for simplifying and minimalizing ... but that's hardcore! Giving up shelter too. Care to explain?

Certainly no one who bought within the past 7 or so years. Owning is overrated...more and more people are finally realizing this.

This is true, having more discussions with friends about the pros and cons of home ownership, car ownership and such.

Home ownership? Still a good idea for most people.

Car ownership is becoming a thing of the past, though.

Misleading statistics and citing social trends to jump to a stupid conclusion is why yahoo articles suck.

When I mean I won't have a house, I mean I won't buy a house, I'll leave in an apartment. If I do decide to buy a house, I'll make sure I can pay it off upfront, I don't want a mortgage.
