Its whatever and thats what most houston fans think. In houston, its easy to recognize a team serious about winning and one just muddling along. There are way too many things to do besides watch the rockets. Hell, I record and watch them later more than I just watch them. I'm into good basketball, more student than fan, and I'm not a time waster. When the Rockets get serious about fielding a serious team or a young team with upside, then I will start going to the games again and start watching alot more. Hell, the few reasons for watching, hill, patterson, chase and other young players arent even playing enough to keep my interest.
Just curious: how many fans feel disappointed? I've read a lot of posts criticizing various aspects of this team, but quite honestly, there hasnt been anything that surprising this season. Martin's playing like he's always played, if not better. Scola's having a career year, as is Lowry. PatPat is coming on and has shown flashes, and AB has played decent when healthy. My primary disappointment with this team up till now has been with our younger players and how quickly their potential has been actualized. C-Bud is fast becoming nothing more than a White Von Wafer, and Hill's ceiling is much lower than many of us thought when we traded for him. The lone bright spot has been PatPat.
The Rockets are a lost franchise wandering around the NBA. The current situation reminds me of the 70's after Tex Winter traded Elvin Hayes.
Ooh, that hurt. You know, even though trading hayes hurt, we got moses soon after. Even after trading moses, we got ralph and dream. After riding that horse so long, we got francis and yao. This team is just good enough to get nothing which is super frustrating.
Yeah but there is no Buffalo Braves ABA team that is in financial trouble to steal a Moses Malone from.....dang it ! DD
The power has shifted to the players, and there is no reason to play in Houston when Miami, NY and LA are much more attractive, even Chicago is as well. That is why I think this upcomming lockout is going to be BRUTAL. The owners are going to grab that power back. DD
Gee, what a great goal to shoot for... Where have you gone, Hakeem Olajuwon A nation turns its lonely eyes to you (Woo, woo, woo)
I feel pessimistic, like this team will max out at a 7th seed and float at the back half of the lottery for another 4-5 years if we continue our current course. I want to blow up the team. Untouchables: Lowry, Martin Like to keep: Lee, Budinger, Hayes Expendable: Everybody else Stockpile assets and rebuild a new core over the next 2-3 years and get ready to compete once Dirk, Duncan, and Kobe start to enter the twilight of their careers.
We have one of the worst defenses in the league. That will not cut it. Sure the big guy is out, but Shanes age is showing this year more than ever before. Lets look around the league, how many starting SF score more than him? His lack of production was fine in the past cause of his lockdown D, but now that thats gone, how much longer is he gonna start? F seniority, give the young guns a shot and see how far we get. The seasons lost either way, might as well get some experience under these guys belts.
DD, I know once you get ths notion in your head, you will run with it to the end, but I disagree with you big time on players only wanting to go to 1 or 2 places. Players sit back and analyze team situations just like fans and kind of get the feeling about which teams have a better foundation than others. Houston around the league isnt viewed by other players as taleted. Not when other teams are viewed as more talented. People on this board severly overrate the talent on this team. Think about this, when Yao and Tracy were playing together and players were being traded and bought out, none of those guys ever considered houston. From brent barry to mcdyess to even a guy like gooden. Houston has 40 win talent. No to mention, houston doesnt seem like an organization willing to do everything financially to win a title. This has nothing to do with players having power. Superstar players have always ad the power to get coaches fired or traded. Thats nothing new and hasnt, nor will it change. If houston had more top shelf talent, they would be in the mix for top shelf players. Who wouldnt want to play with rose, wade, duncan, or the tradition of boston and la? Houston is a large, diverse city, but the rockets act like a small market. When players look at just the 3 teams in texas, houston is a distant 3rd in terms of appeal. Players know Cuban is going to do anything and everything to win a title and the spurs are one of the best run teams in sports. They have managed to stay relevant despite an aging roster. What do houston have? Exactly.
Agree. The rox are stuck in limbo as a below avg. team for several years. Watching young talent out there can help heal the misery and yet they don't get to play.
Team feels rudderless. What is the direction? The team has a lot of nice role players and no stars. The team has a "low ceiling" which makes it hard to root for because it's hard to see success in the long term. The only thing that I enjoy right now are the hustle from Lowry, Scola and Hayes. I would root for more minutes for Terrence Williams and Patrick Patterson which we'll probably see after the trade deadline if they are still on the team. Our "smart high energy veteran role players" are the only thing that is keeping this team from being a very bad team. It's mediocrity at it's finest.
i don't care i'm waiting for the day we get the superstar to build around this team is s.... without it we ain't the Clippers!
this season has def been a huge let down so far...its hard to stay positive at times...being a .500 team in the west will get us nowhere
I feel like this team is in a never-ending limbo. At times I wish we'd tank, then this team shows all sorts of potential and I am excited to think hey might as well make the playoffs and get some experience, and then they can't finish a game, and I just know if we had a closer on this team to mix with these role players, this team would be good for at least 10 more wins already this year. So at this point, I really just want the Rockets to decide to tank (aka blow up) if we can't get Melo, or some sort of superstar this year. Fact is this is a superstar league, in terms of calls, who Stern wants to win, etc. Without one, we don't have a shot, and I know there are countless numbers about how to get a superstar blah blah, but fact is which star is on the market now besides Melo? Even in next like 3-4 years, Dirk (maybe), I'm sure there are a few others that I'm not thinking of but it is just so hard to actually find a good player AND be able to trade for him without having either (or both): 1) A high draft pick 2) A market the player wants to go to As of now Houston is not exactly PRIME market, I'd say it was very close to it when Yao was healthy, but as of now, I just don't see it.
