I just remember listening to Gene Peterson before you could watch games on TV because early round playoff games weren't broadcasted. That Seattle game that went into Triple Overtime. I think it went until 3am.
Listened to the game on the radio last night. First Rockets game I listened to since I moved away in 1999. I miss Gene and Jim. Theses guys on now are nowhere near as good.
Gene and Jim got me through the 94 and 95 Finals each time, watching the TV with the sound off, I couldn't stand the NBC announcers (Marv Albert and Bill Walton). It's gonna be rough when Bill hangs it up, too.
I disagree. Craig and Joel are really good IMO. Craig's return broadcast after the death of his parents made me tear up.
Craig just tries too hard and Joel Blank is horrible with his corny rhyming crap. Gene and Jim will forever be the standard for me. I spent many night shifts at work listening to Gene and Jim and could picture the game in my head.
I love Craig! hes awesome and I love his enthusiasm. I really miss Jason Friedman and the old Rocketscastlives alot.... =( I use to go jogging and listening to those.
Great bump, anyone remember Gene calling it a Horse**** call in the San Antonio game...loved that guy. DD
Yea. I started with these guys when Sampson hit the game 5 winner vs. The Lakers in 86. I still have all four Orlando games from 95 with nbc video, but gene and Jim audio. I seeded them on Torrent not too long ago. I thought Jim would have a heart attack when the Utah clock operator forgot to start the clock for like 10 seconds back during the title run.
Craig is going to be the voice for a long, long time. I love his energy and passion. He calls it like it is and really puts emotion behind his broadcast. Joel is just there. I literally want to punch the radio when he does his halftime and Postgame recap and makes everything rhyme...drives me insane.
Even if I couldn't watch the Rox games on TV, I remember being in my car and tuning in to the radio broadcast with Gene & Jim many times. They were excellent. Gene's play by play was awesome and energetic, and you could mentally 'follow' the game as it was going on. And Jim's color commentary was analytical and insightful. The dynamic duo of radio! Thanks for the memories guys.
Prose is so much easier to understand. Poetry/Rhyme takes an extra fraction of a second to comprehend. It makes it annoying to decipher while trying to do other things like drive or eat...Joel is talented tough...he probably does it because he likes it, and a good number of people have complemented him on it... Gene was great...I miss hearing dipsi-doodle...shake & bake...0 for Thursday...C'mon Refs!...How sweet it is!
