Meh. You could also Dirk never won a ring until he was surrounded by stat-geek players and a stat-geek coach.
How big does the role need to be? If it gained them just a couple extra points per game (or, for that matter, cost their opponent just a couple extra points per game) that can be the difference between winning or losing. That's pretty big to me.
That's a great post. Well thought out, presented well and lots of references to back it up. Nice job.
I agree JM, well said. I still think Les is more interested in making money than winning, but that seems to be widespread in the NBA. LOL DD
Enough to be called "big". If you said "Dirk played a big role in the Mavs' championship", that would be true. If a couple of extra points is all you need to win a ring, then I'd say you're already pretty good.
Thanks so much! I'm a fan of your posts as well! Appreciate it, DD. And, in fairness, I suspect that's truer in the years since his net worth has plummeted than it used to be. But he's still clearly not afraid to spend money.
top point differentials 2010 - 2011 heat = +7.5 bulls = +7.3 lakers = +6.1 spurs = +5.7 magic = +5.5 celtics = +5.4 mavs = +4.2 thunder = +3.8 http://espn.go.com/nba/standings yes, it's true that the mavs were "already pretty good" .... but so were all the other playoff teams. a couple of extra points is HUGE.
thanks man your post about les alexander and nba owners was top notch as well. today is a good day for rational people
