I read that the overheating was going to be solved with a new chip (I think) but I can't imagine it's already in the new ones they're sending out.
Thank God I bought mine from Costco... And check out this post I found in one of mulletman's links: "Costco let me return my X360 with the new hard drive from the replacement I purchased at the same time as the return. They were great (as always)"
Is something like this what you read? http://www.fabtech.org/content/view/1443 That's basically what I was referring to. Once they can start mass-producing Xenon processors at 65nm (while also getting rid of the bugs from the transition), the 360s with these chips should produce less heat overall AFAIK. As the article states, the transition won't take place until the beginning of next year, so none of the 360s being shipped out now use this process.
That is how I read it too. I have had 2 Xbox 360s meltdown on me already...and am on my 3rd.... On any new hardware I would get the warranty add on.....especially first gen consoles. DD
Yeah, that's it ~ if I decide to buy one I will hold out until those new chips are in the machines. I'll probably just end up getting a PS3 though, but that is a ways off as well because they are sure to be just as buggy as the PS2 was when it first came out.
I have a TV stand and it has it's own shelf - totally ventilated.....and when I say meltdowns, I meant they apparently locked up or fried. Once it was the video chip, the other time the CD reader went. DD
Yeah, mid-2007 seems like a good time to get one of these machines IMO. That gives both companies some time to work out the kinks they have, not to mention the software lineup will be much better (especially for the 360...might even be able to get Gears of War cheap). That would also give people more time to find a nice, "affordable" HDTV to take advantage of these systems (unless they want to be cheap). I'm curious to see how bad these launch PS3s are. I'd expect them to be as buggy as say the launch PS2s (though my launch PS2 is still working ), but the 1-year warranty provided by Sony seems a bit surprising (IMO) if that was the case (launch PS2 warranty was 90 days). I might just be reading too much into that though.
Well, back on topic, played some split-screen co-op through some of the campaign last night and I'm speechless. Awesome doesn't even come close to describing it. It sucks we had to quit when it was REALLY getting good. But, we'll be picking up where we left off soon online. Great, GREAT game!!!!
yeah i played a good three hours of split screen co-op last night. i though the single player was great but it's not even close to how fun this game is working with a friend. it was clearly created for the team environment. i love it more everytime i play it.
btw- http://www.compassweb.com is giving away an xbox 360 a day... with Madden 07 I think... FWIW. I picked up a flier on it at the bank.
I just finished the single player of this the other day - it was pretty cool but I had a few problems 1. the storyline - WTF? Obviously there was some complicated backstory that they had built in to the plot about the main character and why you were doing the things you were doing but the game made like - NO effort to explain it. Most of the time I had no idea what I was doing other than "run forward kill guys", that's what all Shooters do, but at least in Halo or some of the other better FPS, you had a clue as to why you were actually doing the things you were doing. It wasn't because they didn't have a story, but what made it frustrating is that they obviously had one, they just cut too much of it out (to make release date?) to give you an idea as to why you were doing stuff. If you want a lasting franchise you've got to give it a bit more continuity. 2. a little too short, could have used an extra level/chapter 3. Multiplayer - man it is unforgiving, some of those guys on there are really good. Could use some more variety in gametypes, I usually just follow my guys forward, get killed..wait for the round to end, repeat.....ehh...
I haven't finished the game just yet but I have to agree the plot, is well just nonsense, there doesn't really seem to be anything going on that is explained clearly.
A lot of the story is unfortunately explained in other areas, like the manual, so yeah it was definitely light there. But I'm able to understand the events of what I'm doing fairly well so far. In any case, the rest of the game was able to make up for the sparse story.
