It seems as if South Korea is a prospering democratic nation with a respectable position in the world as a leader in technological development. I cannot help but think the legacy of American Christianity has been a respect for human rights (as opposed to the north),a system of democracy and a judiciary based on notions of natural justice. All principles that were absent prior to the Christian development in South Korea.

Last time I checked, conservative South Korean Christians were not putting a burden on US social security.

I am 40 years old, and I hate religion much more than Red.

I went to Target the other day and in the Children's book section, there is a book called Heaven is Real, talk about how a 4 year old went to heaven and back and how great heaven is.....I annoys me to no end.

The concept that 2,000 years ago, God sent his son, who is also himself, to earth (among trillions of stars and planets) to right the wrongs he started himself, is simply bizarre. And that is just one of a billion things that is repulsive about religion......

If you had a son, and raised him well and gave him a good place in life, and that son one day got married and shortly after decided to commit a heinous crime. Would he be guilty or would you be guilty?

If God does exist, who says he created a wrong that he had to right. Maybe he just created someone with freedom of will such as himself that decided to act against what was right.

    Personal accountability.

I think the beauty of Christianity is in the fact it repulses people. The concepts of Jesus Christ are so contrary to what this world is. Instead of putting my belief in the survival of the fittest, I am told to put myself aside and to love my neighbour. Instead of loving paper the money we print, I am told to love a God who wrote himself into his creation so they could be saved from their tragic mess. You're right. It is simply bizarre, but that's because nothing else in this world compels us to act so selflessly and lovingly as Christ does.

You make a valid point but when that "father" is supposedly all knowing it kind brings into question the whole free will / personal responsiblity argument, no?

By traditional Christian standards of heaven and hell an all knowing God would ultimately know the fate of every soul that has ever or will ever exist, so free will or not each path was predetermined.

Either he is all knowing or he is not, it can not be both ways.

What has Christianity done to you that causes you to hate it so much? So what if there is a book about a 4 year old that went to Heaven. How does that hurt you? Why would it annoy you? All you have to do is simply ignore it.

Why is the story of Jesus Christ repulsive? Regardless of whether or not you believe, it teaches love, compassion, treating others as you wish to be treated, and other noble traits.

Even atheists seemingly like what the story of Jesus represents even though they don't believe in God.

I actually read that book, Heaven Is For Real. If anyone else has read it, I'd be interested in having a discussion about it. Separate thread, of course.

    Carry on now, kids.

God didn't go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person's failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him.

The predetermination of where a human soul will go is one that is determined by this one thing

Because I don't like superstition. Especially if someone tries to jam it down my throat and call me immoral if I don't take it.

You guys should really keep it to yourselves. I have a diamond the size of the fridge in my back yard, the idea gives me great pleasure and purpose in life, but I don't broadcast it and consider anyone who doesn't believe it needs to be saved.
