seriously, do birthers not realize how fringe they are...and ultimately how pretty much no one cares about their goals? Why should Obama bother to release a certificate for them; it only legitimizes the fact that he actually cares what they are saying and adds fuel to the fire. Just like astronauts don't go out of their way to contest Apollo idiots, these kind of people you can never ever convince. Though I suppose with this whole thing, Obama can start selecting prime candidates for the FEMA internment camps, that's always a positive.
as i see it, there are two main strands of birther thought: the first is that he's not a US citizen, and the second that accepts his citizenship (or accepts that the point is now moot), but thinks there's something else lurking in his birth records. i don't for a minute think the first is true, but the latter poses many interesting possibilities, some far fetched, some ridiculous, but others that are fascinating, if true. amid all the speculation, two undeniable facts remain: Obama's original, paper birth records still exists, and he's going to extraordinary lengths to conceal them. the questions will persist until the why of the latter is addressed.

The state you were born in keeps it on file. They do not hand it out -- even to the person listed, even if they are President. If they handed out the original to Alan Keyes to satisfy his questions, then there won't be one when TJ does his own Angela Lansbury impression.
