you only live once my man. drink/eat what you want... or grind it out on a diet, which you'll eventually give up at some point anyways. unless you're morbidly obese, you should occasionally reward yourself with a burger, fries, and a soda the key is moderation
The only thing thats hard for me to give up Dr Pepper is that it makes some meals so much better. For example a sandwich with soda is 100x better than with water.
There are lots of choices out there if you want to avoid regular sodas. From 100 different flavored teas & waters to G2 to whatever. The only reason I can see someone having trouble avoiding regular Coke is sugar addiction.
I skipped the entire thread to suggest my latest craving: LaCroix Lime flavored Sparkling Water in a can. it's got the burn down the throat for that carbonated burp, and the lime flavor is a nice touch...
FlyerFanatic: First, break your addiction to caffeine. Buy caffeine-free coke and drink that - never consume a caffeinated product. No chocolate (especially dark), no energy drinks or products, no sodas. Be careful - some sodas have caffeine and you wouldn't expect it (Sunkist, Barq's root beer). Mug root beer and A&W don't have caffeine. Also, 7up and Sprite don't have it. Once you've gone at least two weeks without caffeine, then drop sodas entirely. I'm afraid there are no healthy drinks other than water, milk, or V8. Fatty - the withdrawals are hitting you. Tough it out!!!
I'm still good. It's just a hair annoying, especially with this nice glass of Chiante... In fact, I still have the last pack I bought this past weekend. THAT was going to be my last pack. Now I enjoy knowing it's here, and still not touching. (I may throw it out off the balcony soon, though!)
honestly Fatty, if you can survive the urge to not smoke when they are sitting there in front of you, you are over the hump. well done, sir.
I havent drank a whole soft drink since last year. Notice how I said "whole" because I do take sips here and there. Dont really crave them tho. Ive gotten used to drinkin nothing but h20!
Technically, I put them in a drawer, and I've been on Chantix for two months. I am cheating a bit. Actually went to the folks house last night, where my parents and my brother were smoking. My dad and brother even offered me some. I declined. My dad made a comment about a college professor asking his students to offer him a smoke every day as reinforcement. He plans on trying Chantix next week. My mom is already on it. Considering we have been a 3 generation family of smokers, I told my folks if either one of them drops dead after quitting, I'm right back on them...
I gave up sodas last May, and it's been tough, but I'm treating it like a full-on addiction: no cheating, not even a little. I've even passed on a mixed drink at a restaurant because it had Sprite in it. Might seem extreme, but I've been drinking so much for so long, I've got to take extreme measures. First couple of months, I switched to tea w/ Splenda. Then, tea w/ no sweetener. This month I made the big switch to water. This has been the hardest step because of the lack of caffeine. But I'm determined to stick with it. The headaches are gone now, so now I'm just dealing with the lethargy.
Sadly, I can't seem to break out of my diet soda addiction! I have been drinking this stuff since 1988! Man, I drink it like water, however, I also drink plenty of cold water! I just HATE to drink regular sodas! They give me a light headache!
See, this is where we're different. You eat a sandwich and think "this would taste so much better with Coke." I eat the same sandwich and think "this is tasteless garbage. I want some real food with spices and flavor." Never been a fan of sandwiches. I like good burgers though -- not the Big Mac junk, Fuddruckers type burgers. Food has never been an important part of my life admittedly, but I have a personal policy to eat well to the best of my ability when I do eat. I eat what I want -- if I want bacon I will eat bacon; if I want a big ol' greasy burger from 5 guys I'll go get me one; if I want a soda I'll get a soda. Those things aren't regular parts of my diet, but I'll eat them when I want to. But more importantly, I go out of my way to live a stress-free life. In my opinion many people can't keep their weight down because they are overstressed and imbalanced. They try to force their bodies to do unnatural things and then take pills and stress their bodies more to try and push them back to normalcy. My policy is ... avoid stress. I don't overwork myself, I refuse to get anxious about anything. I do my best at everything and leave what's left for God to handle. If I can't fix it today the answer will come to me tomorrow. And it works for me...so well that I can't even gain weight if I wanted. (And I've tried.) My blood sugar and cholesterol levels are superbly low. And I haven't worked out in maybe two years. (I'm trying to fix that now though ... just so I can gain some body strength and endurance that I think I need.)
i used to drink 1 gallon of soda per day...i quit cold turkey and drank just water...i had some pretty bad headaches for a few days but i felt fine after that
from when i can remember till I was 18 I probably had at least a coke a day. I never really liked Cola, but I would have an occasional sprite and a good amount of Ginger Ale. Never had and problems with teeth, never a cavity or anything. For the past 2-3 years, I have only had a couple on the weekends.
About a month ago I went cold turkey off of sodas, and any drinks with empty calories in them (for example, skim milk was still OK). So I lasted a solid week without drinking a "real" soda, which was a record for me since the day I had my first one. I would say it has always been quite normal for me to consume five or six 12-ounce servings of soda per day. I'm not cold turkey anymore, but I find myself feeling guilty for having just one soda a day now, and I basically won't allow myself to have two. Bottom line is that even though I haven't cut it out completely, I know I'm making a huge dent in my intake anyway. It's actually not that difficult when you love tea like I do
