WOW- No carbs AND no caffene, cold turkey...and speaking of turkey, you're doing it during the holidays??? DD- Just give it up until the holidays are over my friend. This is the worst time of year to lose weight. Just enjoy the holidays. Maybe we can do a big BBS weight loss contest starting January 2? I'm willing to throw some money on the pile. More motivation with cash involved.
Good Luck DD. I finally got fed up over labor day weekend and decided to lose some weight. I'm down to 220 from 265. I've cut out the carbs, the booze during the week, and started getting some exercise. Now that the weight is coming off it is getting easier. I'm going carb crazy on Thursday though. I can't wait for that first glorious bite of garlic mashed potatoes smothered in rich brown gravy. emmmmmmmm
Are you doing the piss sticks? Are you purple? And I am at 220 now, and was at 225 on last Friday when I said enough. Just cutting out the sodas and I am down 5 pounds in 4 days. DD
I give up sodas/soft drinks every year during lent, so for 40 days all I drink is water. No tea, Cokes, coffee, juice or punch. Everytime I get a craving for any of that, I guzzle a bottle of water. Granted, it's only for 40 days, but if you flood your stomach with water, the craving goes away pretty quick. Not sure if that'll help you out at all, but good luck with the diet.
If you can just get yourself off of caffeine completely. I did it and sucked it up for a while. Take some pain pills but make sure they do not have caffeine as an added ingredient like many of them do. I used to hate not drinking a caffeinated drink for a day or two and getting those awful headaches. That is why I just weaned myself off of them plus I am cutting out some extra calories.
DD wouldn't it be better to create a meal plan that still involved carbs and would be something you can stick to over the long haul and perhaps even your entire life? one of the main problems with low carb diets isn't that they won't take off weight, but that it's hard to keep that as a lifestyle for too long and eventually all that weight comes back as your system gets hit with the carbs again. it sounds like you've experienced that. the bottomline is that dieting gimmicks like atkins is almost never permanent, most people need a change in their eating routine to see results that last for years and years.
I'd be in. I'm at 215 and would like to lose 30 pounds. One of the other boards I'm on did a "Monday Morning Weigh-in" thread this year where everyone would weigh in on Monday and post their weight. They gave each other support and advice. A couple of people lost a lot of weight.
DD, drink green tea, it has enough caffeine to rid your headaches and it is good for you and will also speed up your metabolism. For those of you who want to do low carb. It works. But make it a lifestyle. Just cut out all simple carbs, no sugar, white flour, white rice, white bread, white potatoes, etc... Stick with complex carbs and keep them fairly low and you'll be fine. That is the approach John Berardi uses for his clients over at precision nutrition.
Water weight. Then comes the muscle loss. Focus on changing your bodyfat percentage, not your scale weight. Throw out your scale.
I am going to cut out sugars, and wheat and bread etc to lose the weight then add them back in slowly when I get to my desired weight...about 170.... It is the sodas though that lead me down the dark path..... Too many years of Dr. Pepper and Coke, it is time to break their demon hold on me !! DD
Dude, when your body is in ketosis and you are burning the stored fat it is NOT water weight. You did not lose 80 pounds of water weight....lol I do the Low carb diet and mix in a good amount of excercise and the pounds fly off.... And I go by inches and weight. DD
You're preaching the choir about carb diets. I've done it up and down. Don't do it anymore. ***edit Or, you know, ignore my advice and continue yo-yo dieting the rest of your life with a crashed metabolism. Whatever, not my problem.
Donny, I do the diet to lose the weight then slowly add back in the pastas and breads etc. I managed to keep the weight off for more than a year, but the problem was the cokes, the Big Macs, and the french fries. Whatever I can do to speed the process of the loss of this inner tube around my gut is better for me than lugging it around for months. DD
When you start to lose weight you will lose a bit of water at first. Also some glycogen stores in your muscle.
Fair enough, but I have to lose the fat, it can not be good for me carrying around 50 pounds of extra weight. DD
