Well, it was fun talkin' rockets in spanish. Now back in english a question for the "insiders", are the rockets willing to draft for potential or will they be like in past years looking for instant help?

Detroit has a 3.9 million exception as well. Something to ponder. Don't want to get my hopes up, but maybe Detroit will say, "Cato = Shotblocker, Wallace = True PF rebounder"? as you indicate.

    boville,
I too want to say thanks for posting your insight. Can anyone post a link to the thread with Gasol's notorious stats? I've been unable to locate it.

I'm sold on Gasol. I bet Rudy is too if he's that versatile. But now I question if he'll be available unless we can move up like the Rockets have been doing.

    boville,

Not only is your English perfectly understandable, but you posted in the correct forum on your first try! This is a feat that some people cannot get right after a few years. [IMG]

I would respond to you in Spanish, but I am very rusty and would probably confuse you because there would be all sorts of French thrown in:

"Buenos dias, j'ai faim, oui, tengo dinero, pero je n'ai pas comida."

Anyway, visit the Museo Prado for me, alright?

    Keep the Gasol info coming...

Why not? We traded #9 last year for a 15 and a 22. [IMG]

Thanks a lot for the information. I'm pretty sure if you had to post some parts in spanish, that some of us here would understand you. After all, we're pretty close to Mexico. [IMG]

What can you tell us about Gasol defensively? Is he an excellent shot blocker due to his arms and height? Or does his weight keep him out of the middle?

Wow, just before i saw this thread i went and did a check of Gasol's stats versus the others on his team -- we should really try to get this guy! He consistently leads the team in points in each game.

Thanks for all your information boville! Have a good trip to Madrid!

My gut tells me this would be a very good pick for the Rockets. First, the guy is used to playing only 20 minutes per game. Second, he will be perfect with the zone defenses. Imagine having him out there for your SF position. It might even make Cato less of a liability. Plus, if he can hit the shot, it is perfect for a drive and dish offensive system. Lastly, Houston might be the best city for a Spanish player. We would embrace him with open arms and if he turns out to be really good, he certainly would be a major draw for much of the city's Spanish speaking population.

Question 1: Would you say his game is more like Dirk Nowitzki's or Pedraj Stojakovich? I know they are similar, but differences exists and I am kinda feeling that he plays more like a taller Stojakovich than Nowitzki (which has been the main european comparison). Is this wrong?

Question 2: You mentioned somewhere above that you though Gascol is an average rebounder but will improve with bulk (GYM). The stats seem to have him getting a lot of boards, though-- 6 in 23 minutes, 8 in 16 minutes. Those are GREAT board numbers. Are you saying you think on the NBA level he would have some problems and most of his boards come from the fact that he is really tall? That is, is he an instinctual boarder--some players, despite their height, just know how to rebound. Is he like this, or could we just expect him to get his fair share of boards due to height?

In all, there arent many players in this draft to get extremely excited about. There are a lot to get a little excited about that may turn out to be great. More and more, Gascol seems like he may be a player to get very excited about. I wouldn't be dissapointed with him at all.

I like this guy, and some of the Spanish media's comments: "...mas largo que un dia sin pan..."--longer than a day without bread--lol

    couple of things:
    1) if we pick this guy, as it looks like he can play many positions if he bulks up, would HeyPartner win or lose his bet?

    2) long, can shoot, though they say he's a little slow of foot in one of the profiles, he sounds like a good candidate against zone defenses

    3) he's young though more seasoned than the college players--a bonus with Francis and Cat who are both young and now getting experienced

    4) I recall how rabid everyone was last year in the BBS about Stromile Swift, etc. Outside of all the athletic picks, I know Mike Miller turned out to be as promised. But I know too little about the draftees who are coming out to say other than picking a smart, capable player (like Battier and Gasol(?)) can be a good bet.

    5) not important, but because someone mentioned it, the Rockets do have some popularity in Spanish speaking countries. At least, down in Ecuador when I was there, everyone knew of Olajuwon and Los Rockets. And it never hurts marketing to have 'world-wide' recognition.

well, interesting so far, I wouldn't be upset if Rudy and CD picked him first

Hi again boville, thanks for the interesting chat a while back. I was high on Gasol even before I talked with you, but with the NBA clausul in his contract you told me he would probably be playing NBA ball in november and not playing out his Barcelona contract.

I would happily lose the heypartner bet over this guy. As I said when I joined heypartner's "we will not draft a SF to play ahead of Langhi" side in the bet, I said that I agreed with that statement, but could see us taking Gasol, because of his height. A Rudy mismatch kinda guy. [IMG]

So lets trade up to take him before Boston does.

    TO VENGEANCE:

    thx a lot man.

    TO JAYZ750:

    good points.

Yes really could be perfect city for a spanish, wheater, idiom, way of life...

If houston pick this guy, all spain will be a rocket fan [IMG]

answer 1- Pau Gasol is more "explosive" that pedja or dirk. Pedja is a "long range killer" Gasol is a long range killer in DECISSIVE MOMENTS, he prefers rebound and dunk habitually in first quarter, and when rivals close this door, he destroy his new sistem with 16ft - 3pt baskets.
really seems a kid´s game for him, he is more intelligent in game, he can read the game only seeing rival´s face (really impressive, you can see this soon i hope)

I don´t know why, but when I think about this guy , I remenber Kevin Garnett (pau only needs know better NBA tempo and game style, but he is a quick learner [IMG] )

when his team is losing, he ever try a spectacular action, he want with this change the loser´s sensations, begin a new game, he is a leader, no doubt.

A taller pedja, maybe, but this dude has anything else, difficult to explain, he gives good vibrations , can you understand me ? [IMG]

2 answer- i said it before, he is very intelligent, he use his instinct & his height too to grab many rebounds, but i think that with more weight could be unstoppable under boards, not for strenght, for quickness and intelligent moves.

you´re right :pau can excite his team´s fans, he can change a team, can give hopes to rebuild a winner team

arghhhhhh, my english is too bad in this post, (same in all) sorry i´m tired, here 2:02 AM [IMG].
