first bynum now gasol?? dirk, dwight, and yao are all better than gasol. i think playing on a top tier team with the best player in the league and the best coach ever is seriously inflating his stock. i'll take yao over any of the fakers bigs anyday and twice on sunday.
gasol is not the star. kobe is. gasol is a piece not the main piece. how about replace kobe with any other SG and see how far they go. now replace gasol with DH, Dirk or even Yao. i bet Yao doesnt get injured as much playn on a stacked team with kobe. the lakers would be even better. gasol is good. but he isnt HOF material.
I believe Lakers with Pau and without Kobe is having better records than with Kobe and without Pau. Do a google! Pau led the terrible Memphis team into playoffs and yes , they never won a playoffs game but Where did Yao and a healthy T-mac led the rockets to? First round exit which was not much better than Pau's Grizzlies. Yes Yao finally won a playoffs series but Pau won his ring. For once I agree with a lakers fan MambaJoe and i hate to admit it. Pau is a better player than Yao! For me, Pau > Yao > Bosh!
If you replace pau with yao this team wins 50 games. You put yao on this team it wins 50 games. If yao or gasol is your franchise player with no other superstars your team most likely doesn't get past the 1st or 2nd round.
pau gasol would be a great fit on this team because he can run the floor and would be our smartest passer and player. yao is strictly a half court player and is only useful when he has the ball in his hands. he's too slow to move off the ball and get offensive rebounds like pau, which would be such a luxury to have. yao also doesnt have very good fundamentals. he'll still lose the ball on occasion and can't seal his man off well for rebounds and passes.
All you have to do is get physical with Gasol and he'll fade. Lets see how he looks against Boston...
First of all, Pau is a power forward. He's tall and he plays decent defense so he can play center if necessary (unlike many of the extremely soft 4's in the league today) but he is a natural power forward, imo. But, I think what Breen means to say is that Pau is the most skilled big man in the game. Yao's size and Dwight's athleticism allows them to be more dominant at times but Pau is a much more skilled player. He's much more versatile and I think he would "fit" if he were paired with any star wing. I don't think that makes him better but it must be considered. It is much more difficult to play with Yao than Pau. He can't catch lob passes, he can't deal with fronts, and it takes him too long to get good position. Sure, when he finally gets the ball he's very hard to stop but a team won't work as hard to get him the ball if he isn't the focal point of the offense (which he wouldn't be if he were playing with a superstar wing like Kobe, Lebron, or Wade). I will admit Gasol is one of my favorite players in the league today. And, I have a lot of respect for his game. I felt he was one of the top bigs when he was with the Grizzlies. He was underrated for a long time because he wasn't a 25 ppg scorer but if you really watch him play he does EVERYTHING you want a big man to do. He rebounds, he's a great passer, he can defend, he knocks down his free throws, and he's a threat from nearly everywhere inside the three point line. He's a throwback 4.
Yao took his team to the second round. Pau's Grizzlies couldn't even win a game. Yao 1 Pau 0 Pau only got his ring because he is on the Lakers, with a guy named KOBE BRYANT. A Yao-less Rockets team took the Lakers to 7 games. Yao 1 Pau 0. So the only thing I can conclude is, in your opinion, Pau is a better player than Yao, because he hasn't been to the second round by himself, and that he has 1 ring to Yao's 0. Right?
A healthy Yao (fictional character) in his prime (never really happened and is now past) surrounded by all stars (never happened) if not guarded by a midget that completely shuts him down (happened all the time) is better than Pau. When "if's" and "but's" become fruits and nuts we will all have a Merry Christmas!
umm hell no.. gasol couldnt even win a single playoff game til he got to LA (sad) Yao dominates every C he faces, could pau have guraded a prime shaq as a rookie and blocked his shot 3 times and gotten the better of shaq on numerous occassions since? hell no.. can pau shutdown dwight howard on both ends of the floor the way Yao does? hell no.. KG made him his lil girl in the finals in 08 and will do it again, KG doesnt even attempt to guard Yao.. when Yaos healthy hes the best/tuffest to guard C in the game hands down, all these media heads and small market overlookers needs to shutup cuz they have no clue
also, u put Kobe on the same team with Yao and watch how much greater he looks.. its more about who pau's teammates are than him individually cuz hes softer than charmin tissue, Kobe has pulled the wool pulled over every1's face that thinks Pau would be this successful on his own.. I gota laugh at that, sadly ppl have a tendency to become prisoners of the moment
You guys are crazy. Pau is definitely better than Yao. His Grizzlies supporting cast was way worse than the Lakers cast minus Kobe. Just because he was underrated before, doesn't mean that now he's being recognized he's overrated. A healthy Yao is a fairy tale. No reason in using it to make a point, it doesn't exist, like a Vince Carter who plays hard. Don't go chasing unicorns.
