It doesn't make sense to drive 5 miles to save 10 cents, but it certainly makes sense to drive 10 miles to save $1.50 per gallon... for my car that's a savings of almost $30 on the fillup.
Well yeah, I'd drive 5 miles out of the way if Gas was even 30-40 cents cheaper, but usually you won't find that much disparity in price that far away. Unless of course its where I live and the Shell station on Chimney Rock and Westpark charges 4.01, but if you go 50 feet to the other side of the freeway its like 3.79 at the Mobil. You go 2 more blocks down Chimney Rock there is a Conoco that has unleaded at 3.67. I **** you not. I think these is a blog somewhere wrote about those Shell stations on Chimney Rock charging 30 cents more per gallon than all the stations around them. Its ridiculous
That reminds me of a BP station in my town. Right now, every gas station in town is around $3.49/gallon, the BP station I am referring to is like $3.81/gallon. I mean, WTF?
I see that everyday on my way home from work. I think last week when prices really started to drop, that station was still at 4.19 or something when the Chevron had already fallen to 3.79. But I dunno what's worse, the fact that they're price gouging or that people still go there to fill up when a much cheaper alternative is right across the intersection.
I live a few blocks north on Chimney Rock (near Westheimer) and whenever i go south to 59 i pass 2 shell stations (one at richmond and the other at 59) that charge 20-30 cents more per gallon for all 3 types of gasoline than every other station in the galleria area... i don't understand this phenomena at all.
