This is what I hope they do. I can't see going into the year with Keenum and Yates as your only QBs under contract. O'Brien might have a mini-stroke. Of course, if O'Brien wants Schaub more than those guys (McCown/Henne), what do you do?

 

Joe Flacco has never missed a start. And they're paying him 11 twenitrillion dollars.

While I'll concede the point, behind each of those deals is a certiflably stupid (desperate) GM, a group that Ozzie Newsome most assuredly does not belong. If Kubiak is going to bring over a viable back-up, don't the likely-to-be-released Keenum or Yates make more sense?

You and me and Schaub - we shared a moment and it meant something. At least to me... But this is patently absurd. Back-up QBs do NOT make teams better. That's Jerry Jones thinking right there. Sure, if you turn your team over to a TJ Yates-like QB, a viable back-up would be nice. But Joe Flacco is a Super Bowl MVP who has never missed a start.

We absolutely can; namely someone who would actually contribute to the team being better in 2014.

They're cutting Scahub; Bobby M all but confirmed it by firing Kubiak over it. He's as gone as gone gets, bro.

Or the Jets. He'll have suitors, though fewer this offseason than if we had cut him after 2012. I would have to wager the word is out on him: damaged goods.

 

It would be more Kubiak's MO (in light of Orlovsky, Grossman, Leinart) to bring in Josh Freeman as backup.

 

He's the offensive coordinator, not head coach, and certainly not general manager. He might have some input, sure - but I doubt he has so much input that he'd be able to dictate spending a large sum of money on a back-up QB.

Sure, it's all possible; I just think people are forgetting that the Ravens have much more powerful players (when it comes to personnel) in their organization.

I like Harbaugh being a CEO. Delegating power to guys with big egos instead of umm... not even hiring an OC and thinking he's a big dick, as if he's done something. Oh wait, he won a Superbowl. He did do something.

 

I think we can all agree and pray that joe Marciano becomes baltimore's special teams coordinator....

If Schaub goes to Baltimore it's probably on a pretty cheap, short deal to try his luck in free agency again in a year or so. Baltimore's cap situation is still pretty ugly IIRC. I think it comes down to when Schaub gets cut (I say "when" because I firmly believe that Bob and Rick want to wash their hands of him, and his salary makes it feasible to do so) ... if he's cut after June 1, which is pretty likely IMO in order save us more on the 2014 cap, the number of suitors will go down drastically since that is after free agency and the draft.

 

Cut him this year: Save somewhere between 3-4 million with 10 in dead money (with 3-4 million dead the following year, unless we opt to spread it evenly over the two years, as is allowed for "June 1st" cuts)

Cut him next year: Pay him the full 13-14MM he's due in 2014, save somewhere around 10 million with only 3-4 million in dead money in 2015.

No backup player makes any team better then, until he plays. S*** happens. It's nice to be prepared if you can.

That would mean we're rolling into 2014 with Keenum, Yates, and Drafty McPickChoice at QB. If you're cool with that, ok. I don't know who we could or would spend that money on, but I'm sure there's somebody that would take it.

Eh. I think Kubiak was fired for more reasons than that. O'Briens input will probably factor in at some point, along with the money, and this Baltimore thing certainly won't help. I'm just preparing myself for either outcome.

Who is the Jets new OC? I don't think any team that drafted a top round QB last year will be in the market for a starter just yet. I think he'll get that 4ish million dollar contract and go to a situation where he is "expected" but not "for sure" to start, like Minny, etc. Certainly more money than Baltimore would offer him.

I agree 100% with the sentiment - but has Harbaugh ever held a coordinator position beyond special teams? I don't think he really has an area of expertise, does he?

The Ravens are one of the best-run organizations in all of football. It says a lot that they not only hired Kubiak but Dennison, too. Many of us have long-maintained that the previous regime - which underachieved and deserved its ouster - was nonetheless better thought of outside of Houston.

Yes, he's got some HC/Personnel management questions, along with loyalty issues (both good and bad)... but for the most part his offenses have been above average if not elite.

If his only job is to coach up the offense of a team that won the Super Bowl last year, I don't think he's going to have too hard of a time. I do think Baltimore upgraded by hiring him and losing Caldwell.

 

Definite upgrade. Kubiack is the best OC candidate on the market just like Romeo was the best DC on the market.

 

Compared to Cam Cameron and Jim Caldwell, Kubiak is a rockstar.

 

Yep; that's of much greater concern than Kubiak possibly bringing a back-up QB whose best days are behind him. I'm not a huge Flacco fan - but that offense has some talent, especially if Ray Rice has anything left in the tank.

Ironic that the Ravens, who have for so long ('round here) been held up as the organization with the chutzpah to fire its OC in-season, just hired Kubaik as their OC?
