guess we can finally resign Cook like the team's five-year plan calls for.

He's a poor man's Lowry at best. I thought he was Lowry with a jump shot, but Ive not been impressed by him.

Understandable. He was disappointing in his first 10 day visit. But he's got it going now in the NBDL and if he gets minutes on this 10 day, I expect him to light it up.

He is a better shooter than Lowry.
He sees the floor better than Lowry.
He is not as good a defender as Lowry.
He draws as many fouls and gets to the FT line at a similar rate to Lowry.

If he performs on this 10 day deal, I expect we will sign him for the balance of the season. We need 3 point guards with Lowry and Brooks playing minutes side by side.

My guess is they won't sign either Conroy or Temple (or anyone else) for the rest of the season after Conroy's 10 day expires unless someone on the team gets injured or some need or opportunity arises that's too good to pass up.
I think they'll just keep their flexibility. Maybe sign someone else to a 10-day (maybe someone else on the Vipers... those 10-day NBA checks are a decent supplement for D-League Income), mabye just keep the spot open.

    Conroy Rejoins Houston
    Mar 02, 2010 2:41 PM EST

The Houston Rockets today signed Will Conroy of the Rio Grande Valley Vipers. Conroy’s is the 17th Call-Up of the 2009-10 season and the fifth of Conroy’s career, including the second to Houston this season.

Conroy, a 6-2 guard out of Washington, has appeared in 19 games, 17 starts, for Rio Grande Valley this season, averaging 15.7 points, 10.1 assists (second in the NBA D-League) and 6.2 rebounds. He has recorded three triple-doubles this season, including a season-high 31 points to go with 14 rebounds and 12 assists in a 136-128 overtime victory over the Springfield Armor on Feb. 26.

Conroy rejoins the Rockets following a GATORADE Call-Up on Jan. 28, when he appeared in two games, scoring four points, dishing out two assists and grabbing two rebounds in 20 minutes. Previously signed as a free agent by the Rockets on Sept. 22, 2009, Conroy averaged 6.0 points and 2.6 assists in five preseason games with Houston before being waived on Oct. 22, 2009.

If Conroy impresses, they will sign him for the balance of the season. They want the option on him for next season as a replacement for Lowry. I wouldn't be surprised if we signed him to a 2 or 3 year deal, whatever is allowable, at minimum salary, to have him locked up for next season and to use as leverage with Lowry. They do not want to pay Lowry $4-$5 million to be a backup PG that can't shoot. Lowry is a great player right now, at the salary he is making. But Morey has a value assigned to him and we all know Morey isn't going to overpay anybody. He's going to make best use of the asset. If that means signing and trading Lowry for a trade exception, Morey will do that. A trade exception has more value than Lowry signed for more money than Morey deems he is worth.

If Conroy gives us good minutes, shows us he can run the team, play a little D, dish some assists, get up and down the floor, and shoot it, don't be surprised if we sign him to an extended deal.

Concur....plus Temple is 6-6 while Conroy (6-2) isn't much bigger than Brooks or Lowry. Temple is three years younger than Conroy, and he pushes the ball better from what I have seen.

Hasn't shown the coaching staff/managing staff enough.

I really thought he played well. I would've loved to have him as a 3rd backup PG.

Conroy was really bad in his 2 games here this season. Really really bad. Ugh.

How is he garbage? Dude is 6-6, drives to the basket, has the ability to get to the line, an above average defender and shooter, and also pushes the tempo of the game. He is much better than Conroy, imo.

We can't sign Temple anymore since each player is limited to two 10 day contracts; after 10 more days, we'll have to find some other backup guard (if Lowry doesn't come back) from the D-League since Temple and Conroy has been double signed.
