I think that bigboymumu has a good point, why would KG want to go to any of those teams if they traded that much of their nucleus for him. One thing to keep in mind, KG has to be signed and traded - meaning he has to want to go to that team. Other teams can offer more substantial players, but then why would you want to go. I think that if they were serious about trading you have 3 possible trading partners - Chicago, Houston, Dallas. Dallas has the most talent, but it could be a case of making the team unattractive by subtraction. Chicago could offer a decent package, but they would include many young and unproven players plus a supposed malcontent in Rose. Houston could offer a substantial contract to come off the books in Rice, and don't discount the value of that. Couple that with the money they save when Brandon comes off the books, and it would make them serious players in FA next year. They would get a proven scorer in CM, who can also play D and has a friendly contract. They get a young and possibly up and coming player in EG. A solid center in Cato, who would provide insurance if Nesterovich bolts, OR could be coupled with Rasho to be a very solid center rotation. Plus, I would give up 2 draft picks in a heart beat. If we were to obtain KG we would be drafting quite low in the first round, and that would be better than what Minn has right now - NADA! Crazier things have happened - Baker for Kenny Anderson (WTF!) Yetti - what is your fascination with Yao? I mean I like the guy as much as anybody, but you sound like an obsessed little freak. The goal of the GM is to improve the team, not to ensure Yao develops into the next all world big man. Don't get me wrong I hope Yao develops into the next Dream, but god bless give all the "Yao's a precious treasure, don't trade for anyone that might actually help the team if it mght hinder the development of Yao" posts a rest PLEASE! Question, following your logic, what do we do if the Chinese government decides they don't want Yao over here anymore? What happens if he were to get hurt? BTW, you want to know who would be the leader with KG, Yao, and SF - KG baby. This dude plays with passion and fire, and he brings every single night. I respect the fact that he plays the game the way it should be played 100% balls to the wall. There aren't many guys that do that anymore.
Imagine the wing span in the paint. Teams wouldn't be able to come inside on us. If they get their shots off, (BIG IF) they better hope they make it because there won't be any rebounds to go around. Can you imagine the zone defense we would be able to play? But again, Yao + Francis + Rudy = Garnett
I would rather try to make a trade for Elton Brand. And have Brand, Francis, and Yao. Compared to just Garnett and Yao. I think the above team is better anyway you look at it. I just dont think you should give up Franis or Yao for anybody. And I also think if Chicago makes that trade they will get screwed. If Chicago waits a few years with the players they have they will be better then off with that then Kevin Garnett.
Sane, great post and great analysis! I don't think there will be any trade for KG but the trade you laid out looks decent. No question if we were to try to trade for KG that Francis would HAVE to be in that deal and you make a GREAT point that all the KG trades brought up that Francis is the BEST player in those trade scenarios. And you have to believe that if the Wolves traded KG that they would want a star player in return. KG up top and Yao in the paint in a zone defense would be killer! I like Francis a lot but if I can get KG then I pull the trigger. He is still VERY young and is still improving. He was an MVP caliber player this year. Match him with Yao and you have a DOMINANT front line! I don't think there is any chance this would happen but it is fun to think about.
Why does Minnesota do this trade anyway? So they have an 18 man roster of mediocrity? If the T'Wolves get forced into a corner and have to trade Garnett, they want as few players as possible in return, since ideally, the quality of those players goes up considerably. It's infinitely easier to replace Anthony Peeler and James Posey than it is to replace Garnett.
Okay lets pull our heads out of our arse's. For those of you who are not including either Yao or Steve in a trade proposal. WTF are you thinking. Why would the T-Wolves do something so idiotic? If we want KG one of them will have to go. For those of you saying why would KG go to a team that has traded off half their top tier players to get him, why wouldnt the same apply to Houston? Face it, if we want KG one of our BIG 2 players will have to go. Why is it when I see trade possibilities here the other team is getting the WAY shorter end of the stick. Lets be realistic here. What would you take if you were the Timbo's GM. Definetly not MoT,Rice,Cat,Griffin w/o either Yao or Steve. That would be a public relations disaster in Minnesota. They do have a building they need to sell tickets in. Would you go to a T-Wolves game with that garbage? Hell no! I have read some trades that do make sense for either side, but if I were Minnesota it would be hard to justify anything for KG unless he has openly demanded a trade or said he would not sign period. They have a whole off-season to go after the likes of Gary Payton's, Karl Malones, etc. I think it will take one big name to make KG happy. I guess the trick is selling someone on a place like Minnesota... Anywho, dont post a trade unless Yao or Stevie is not included cause your only kidding yourself otherwise.
OKAY PEOPLE. Kevin Garnett and Yao Ming. GOD. That would be awesome. Steve Francis, Eddie Griffin, Glen Rice, Bostjan Nachbar, MOOCHIE NORRIS, AND a 1st round draft pick for Kevin Garnett and Troy Hudson. LOVELY Sane. Hudson/Me Mobley/Posey/Hawkins Garnett/Posey/Morris Taylor/Garnett/Morris Yao/Garnett/Cato/ Man...best team ever. CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM. Kevin Garnett AND Yao Ming. Oh my.....better than David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Kevin Garnett does great with Rasho Nesterovic....who is a pretty sucky player. KG AND YM TOGETHER?!?!?!? WHOOOOOOOOOO. But not gonna happen.
Hey...lol... Well Michael Finley, Nick Van Exel, and Raef Lafrentz. They aren't that popular or great either. But together.....they are good value. And anyways....EVEN WITH KEVIN GARNETT....nobody goes to the games! lol.....no one believes in them......like 7 years of losing in 1st round. IF KEVIN GARNETT CAME TO HOUSTON........we would be the champions next year.
Who said KG gets a say on where he wants to go? If Mchale wanted to send KG to the Nuggets for Juwan Howard and some chicken Nuggets he can very well do so. Whatever makes the T-wolves better. So if any of these teams (Bulls,Mavs,Blazers, Rockets) come up with a blockbuster to trade KG he (Mchale) damn well better pull the trigger.
The more I think of this, the more I think NO ONE can offer a better deal than Houston. I'd love to get some clarification on Francis BYC status, and this theory that MManal has around trading in large sums to make the BYC status less of a problem. No one will offer a player better than Steve Francis. No one will offer a player who will bring in more fans. No one will offer a locked up young All Star basically. Finley, Exel and Lafrentz is great. But the Mavs wouldn't do it. It looks great, but Exel and Finley are into their 30's, are paid the maximum, and are on the decline. Also, they do not bring the fans to the games. I've gone through ALL the teams in the league, and THE best package I could figure a team would offer is from the Toronto Raptors: Antonio Davis + Vince Carter Minnesotta look like this: Nesterovic Antonio Davis Wally Szerbiack Vince Carter Troy Hudson I have to say, that's a pretty good deal. Vince Carter made the All Star team without even playing during the season. Antonio Davis is the experienced big man and leader they could use. Again though, if you compare, our deal is just as good: Francis Griffin Rice Boki Here's the difference: With our deal, they get to start over and shorten the rebuilding process. With the Toronto deal, they take one more shot at contention as well as the risk on Carter being his former self.
Houston trades: Steve Francis – current superstar Eddie Griffin – lottery pick power forward to take KG’s place Glen Rice – Veteran SF with a lot of salary that comes off of the books at the end next season Future 1st round pick - to sweeten the pot Minnesota trades: KG Troy Hudson Houston then resigns Posey and tries to get an outside shooter like one of the Barry boys to come off of the bench. Houston’s starters for next year: Troy Hudson Cuttino Mobley James Posey Kevin Garnett Yao Ming Yao Ming and Kevin Garnett would be the best passing duo in the NBA. Only the Kings would have duo of big men with comparable passing skills and Webber is not as good as Garnett nor is Vlade as good as Yao Ming. Imagine Cat and Posey receiving passes from KG and Yao Ming. Yao Ming, Kevin Garnett and James Posey might just be the absolute best defensive front court in the league. With Cato coming off of the bench this would be one hell of a block party and cause teams to live or die against us on the perimeter. Yao Ming and Kevin Garnett are the perfect complement to each other. Why? Because the one criticism that KG has had during his career is the fact that he likes to play away from the basket, scoring the majority of his points from the outside as opposed to the inside like traditional power forwards. He is still great at posting up but like Webber he loves his outside shot. Yao Ming on the other hand is more of a throw back Center that likes to post up his man like the great centers of the 70’s and 80’s. Yao Ming has the largest array of post moves in the NBA, he has the drop step, the spin, the fade a way, the hook, the dream shake and of course the slam dunk. With Yao Ming and KG both able to pass or score who would the defense double? Two true seven footers, the twin towers reborn. This would be the biggest and best front court in the NBA for the next decade. KG just turned 26, Yao Ming turns 23 in September and James Posey is 26. All three are athletic freaks in their own way. And in case anyone is curious this would be IMO a better front court than Dream, Sampson, McCray or Dream, Thorpe, Horry or Dream, Barkley, Pippen. Let me also add that both Elton Brand and Jermain O’Neal like to operate in the post a lot more than KG does so while I would love to have either of them next to Yao Ming, I think Garnett is a better player and a better fit than either of those two.
<i>A reminder to you. For us to trade those as we are right now they would have to be 2005 and 2007. Or we would have to get 1st rounders in other drafts to be able to trade any others. You cannot have consecutive years with no first round draft pick.</i> That's not quite accurate. Here' s the explanation from the salary cap FAQ: This rule applies only to future first round picks. <b>For example, if this is the 99-00 season, then teams can trade their 2000 first round pick without regard to whether they had a 1999 pick, since their 1999 pick is no longer a future pick. But they can't trade away both their 2000 and 2001 picks, since both are future picks. </b> Teams sometimes work around this rule by trading first round picks in alternate years. http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#69 So, AFTER this year's draft, we're free to trade our 2004 pick if we wish.
Steve's contract will be approx. $10 million after July 1st, and his base year value will be approx. $5 million. In otherwords, Minnesota takes on a $10 million salary for which we only get credit for $5 million. That makes a $5 million gap. The salaries have to be within 15% of each other in the deal (+ $100,000), which amounts to $1.5 million of gap covered for every $10 million in salaries in the deal. As such, we would have to send over $30 million in salaries to Minnesota to cover the $5 million gap. If Garnett counts for approx. $27 million next year, Minnesota can take back appox. $31 million in salaries to be within 15%. That eats up $4 million of the gap, leaving Minnesota needed to send $1 million in player(s) to a third team under the cap. If Garnett + Hudson is $30 million, then we can send Minnesota $34.5 in salaries, and they only need to send out $400,000 to another team ($500,000 less $100,000). So all we need to do is find a little more than $34.5 million in salaries that Minnesota would take. Francis $10 million Rice $ 9.4 million Cato $ 7 million MoT $ 7.4 million Eddie $ 2.3 million Total $36.1 million (all figures approx.) At $36 million, we can take back a little over $31 million, so the gap is almost closed (if Minnesota sends us a little bit more cap fodder in addition to Garnett/Hudson). So the numbers can get pretty close to covering the gap, given that Garnett's salary is so large.
That being said, Minnesota basically becomes the 2001-2002 Rockets, with the exception of a hopefully healthy MoT and an expiring contract with Rice. So there is going to be a lot of despiration needed by Minnesota before they do any of these deals.
We can forget about it Steve Francis/ Yao Ming WILL NOTWILL NOT be traded. The only way we get Kevin Garnett is if KG himself says he wants to go to Houston and then Minny would have to consider Cat/Eddie/Cato/Rice/draft pics. I know it sounds crazy but I'm just being real. Houston isnt going to trade Francis or Ming. KG and Francis are real good friends I cant see KG wanting to come to Houston If Francis and Rudy or Ming isnt here lets get real. KG is a Great talent but if he doesnt come out verbally and say Houston Rockets is the team for me or I want to play w/ Francis and Yao or I want to play for Rudy We can forget it. I would love to see Garnett it H-Town but I'm not willing to trade Ming and Francis for him I would just do the Elton Brand trade. (Cat/Eddie or whoever except Francis/Yao)\ Can you picture YAO MING KEVIN GARNETT STEVE FRANCIS on the same team thats very intriging LETS DO IT LES!!!!
Francis and Griffin for Garnett and Hudson would be pretty fair... But money wouldn't work. Francis and Griffin and Rice and Nachbar sounds good...unless Nachbar is NOT a bust. If he is actually good.....then keep him and give them a future 1st round pick. Man......this would be a great offer! Hudson...man...he is already in his 8th year! Doesn't seem like it...But he is decent...can drain 3 pointers easily. Francis Wally Griffin Smith Nesterovic Brandon Jackson Wilks Rice Hudson Mobley Garnett Taylor Yao Man we would be very flexible...cuz if we had to face taller lineups...we could have Garnett, Cato, and Yao...or Taylor. But against smaller lineups...we could have Nachbar, Garnett, and Yao. Against quicker lineups...we could have Posey, Garnett, and Cato. That would be lovely. FANTABULOUSTICO. Hudson and Moochie. Mobley and Posey and Hawkins. Now does anyone know if Garnett has ever said anything related to the Houston Rockets??? ANYTHING? I'm going to find something...a quote..... Anyways. It's not going to happen. But nobody else would give up as much as us for Garnett. We would still have Moochie Norris.
Fine...if some say no Francis or Ming involved in the trade...how about... Moochie Norris, Tito Maddox, Cuttino Mobley, James Posey, Juaquin Hawkins, Bostjan Nachbar, Glen Rice, Terence Morris, Eddie Griffin, Maurice Taylor, Kelvin Cato, and Jason Collier for Kevin Garnett and Troy Hudson? Actually, Cuttino Mobley, Eddie Griffin, Bostjan Nachbar, Maurice Taylor, Glen Rice, and a future 1st round draft pick would be enough for Kevin Garnett and Troy Hudson.
Lets suppose this. If yao was making as much as Garnet, and was playing just as good, u would trade Yao for Szerbiatch, Hudson, Mar Jackson, Joe Smith, Peeler and Gill right???
