On the BBS people have been critical of Steve being unable to play 2nd fiddle to Yao. Everybody knows that the Rockets will eventually win running the offense through Yao not Steve. Steve might learn this as Yao gets better. IF we get KG we would ask steve to take 2 steps back when he hasnt been able to take one. Fat chance
I think that with this trade, the Rockets would look a lot like the old Garnett/Marbury T-Wolves minus Gugliotta.
I would trade Francis, Griffin and Rice in a heartbeat for Garnett, hell take everyone but Yao. Imagine: Yao MoTaylor Garnett Whoever Like it matters No ball would get within 5 feet of the goal. What would Minnesota take: Francis, Griffin and Rice or Williams, Rose, Fizer and Chandler I think our package is better and could be spiced up with Cat too.
Steve+Eddie+Mo+filler+draft pick for KG+filler We resign Posey, get veteran pg. They trade Terell Brandon(expiring contract) for Eddie Jones. Our group: Yao, KG, Posey, Cat, veteran Their group: Hudson, Steve, Eddie Jones, Szerbiatch, Eddie Griffin, Mo KG's reason: Yao, KG, Cat > KG, Szerbiatch, Hudson Our reason: We get freaking KG Their reason: Stay young while getting true all star for the next decade + young potential + much more flexibility regarding trades. Of course, I dont think Steve can be traded in his base year, so just dreaming really. But hey!
Let me start by saying I would trade Francis to get Garnett in a heartbeat. But, we can look at numerous trades and see that once a player "demands" a trade, whether implicitly (not signing an extension) or explicitly (demanding a trade publically), fair value is never returned. (Pippen to Portland, Francis to Houston, Barkley from Philly to Phoenix...) Now, I understand that there will be a lot of demand out there for Garnett. But, any team trading for Garnett will have to agree to a contract extension prior to completing the deal. Teams will not take on the risk without it. So what does that mean to me. It means that Garnett will handpick his teams. The teams that he will want to go to must be a championship contender when he arrives. That narrows the pool of teams to a select few. The second big hurdle after Garnett narrows his choices will be which team has the contracts, not which team has the talent. What I mean is, Garnett will not go to a depleted team. So teams like the Blazers and Mavs of the world will come knocking. But, if you were Garnett, would you rather play with Sheed-less Portland, one of the big three-less Mavs,... or Houston. I don't really think any other team has the contracts to give up without giving up their stars. I know he has ties in Chicago. I also think the Suns are a darkhorse but they have a lot of dead weight on that team. (I really do not know what Garnett thinks of Marbury.) Again, it will come down to EXPIRING CONTRACTS, YOUNG BIG MEN, A SCORER and DRAFT PICKS. Basically, RICE'S CONTRACT IS THE KEY! Maybe to a third team that will return another young star to Minnesota or Minnesota will have the flexibility next summer to rebuild.
Everyone in Houston will be hysteric ... as in happy. Everyone in Minn will be hysteric, ... as in laughing at our face for making such ridiculous offer!
Got to agree with MManal on this. KG is, basically, two max players in one, and would probably have to agree to a lesser contract (i.e., non-grandfather claused). But Kevin McHale and the Wolves and Minnesota, I think, have a complex about Francis, who turned down the lily-white northern climes of Vancouver; Minnesota has always had it in for Steve, so for this to work, 't'would have to be a 3-way. It would also have to be a massive trade to offset BYC in Steve's contract. Chicago is a good 3rd team option. Send Steve and Moochie to Chicago, send Jay Williams and Rose to Minnesota, add EG and Rice and Cato, and take back, say, Garnett and Marc Jackson, maybe Troy Hudson... Whatever. Then Rudy, if healthy, would stay. Even Rudy can't screw up coaching KG. And Rudy and KG have a good relationship. Pipe dream? Probably. But you never know.
I would rather try to make a trade for Elton Brand. And have Brand, Francis, and Yao. Compared to just Garnett and Yao. I think the above team is better anyway you look at it. I just dont think you should give up Franis or Yao for anybody. And I also think if Chicago makes that trade they will get screwed. If Chicago waits a few years with the players they have they will be better then off with that then Kevin Garnett.
i would love to see KG playing along-side with stevie and yao. i heard some good things about KG, YAO, and SF creating a good "friendship" since the all-star game. i would love KG here in houston. see this: YAO GRIF KG J-POSE SF
If Portland were to offer Wallace, Z-bo, and Derek Anderson for Garnett and I were Minnesota; I would do that in a heart-beat.
Why would Garnett go there then? Where would he get help from? Bonzi Wells? Patterson? I don't think so.
Garnett,(rather expensive) Francis and Yao Ming! Who would lead the team? Would Yao Ming get a chance to develop? Would there be a clash of personalities? Sorry still think Elton Brand would be a better fit!
I would trade anyone on our roster for KG. KG is what we hope Yao turns out to be, and isn't that much older. SF is a star whether you like him or hate him, but KG is an MVP type of candidate and will be for the next 8-10 years. I don't think we will get Garnett away from the Wolves though, unless they are absoulutly stupid.
I have heard and seen the samething. If you can remember Steve and KG were talking and horseing around together at the all-star game. Now I went to the game and Steve and KG were like Batman and Robin the whole weekend so I would'nt be surprised at all if Garnett is in a rockets jersey next yr. >>Rudy T. and Kevin G have a great relationship also. I would trade everyone except Steve and Yao. KG would not come here if Rudy's not coach and if Steve and Yao isnt here. Houston will be #1 on his list becuz he knows if he was on this team with Franchise and Dynasty they will be a top contender for sure. It's gonna take big guts by Les to pull the trigger Les knows he has to pull something major to sellout the new arena and KG/Steve/Yao could make that happen we would be on national t.v. almost every night. I really belive it will happen!!!
KG being in houston will make today's rocs be the one of the most perfect teams in the league.. they got offense, defense, versatility.. everything! and plus, with KG playing along with francis, it would be like the batman-robin relationship PAYTON/KEMP has back in the days. that would be hot as hell! its a win-win for the rocs. they will win games, they will sell more, more tv exposure (now we have yao and kg on the team).
Take this one step further, if the Rox trade SF (and change) for KG, then Houston needs to sign JKidd in the off-season. Yao-KG-Kidd
Did anyone else just read Yetti's post and feel their stomach turn? Yetti, when you pit Yao Ming against Steve Francis, sure, you have a point. Ming is the post guy and Francis hasn't been able to lead us to the playoffs. But for heaven's sake, this is Kevin Garnett we're talking about. This guy, AT THE ABSOLUTE WORST, is the 5th best player in the league, and I think he finished second in MVP voting this season. He's led his piece of CRAP team to 6 consecutive postseasons. People are AFRAID to trade with Minnesotta, be cause if KG gets any help, it's over. Anyone who wouldn't trade Francis and players for Garnett really has to think again. Francis will NEVER be as good as Garnett was 2 years ago. Considering they're basically the same age, that's quite a compliment. Here's my offer to Minny: Steve Francis Eddie Griffin Glen Rice Boki for Garnett Troy Hudson Francis is the main piece of our side of the deal. You throw in Eddie Griffin to play PF since Wally would move to SG. He's young, and hopefully a change will allow him to accelerate his growth. I include Glen Rice in this deal because I'm sure the Wolves would rpefer him over Cato. Why? They have Nesterovic at C, and Marc Jackson backnig him up. They don't need a C. However, what they could use is a little cap relief from Rice's expiring contract (10M), which is essentially half of Garnett's contract. I throw in Boki as the equivalent of a draft pick. Surely, if we had a pick, they'd ask for it. Boki i essentially a rookie who has one year of NBA off court experience. If he pans out, the may trade Wally's selfish ass out of there too. In return, Kevin Garnett and Troy Hudson. Teams: Nesterovic/Marc Jackson Griffin/Joe Smith Rice/Boki Wally/Peeler Francis They're not improved, obviously, but they get younger, and have some extra cash to spend. They hope that Griffin and Boki develop while Steve tries to help this team in the mean time. Basically, it's a starting over plan. As for Houston Ming/Cato MoT/Cato(for all I care) Garnett/It doesn't matter Mobley Hudson/Moochie I would go ahead and trade Mobley and Cato for a backup C, a backup PF, and a SG. But this would be fine too. Ming/MoT/Garnett would be the best frontline in the league. I really can't see ANYONE offering a single player better than Francis in ANY deal. One possibility is Antoine Walker, but they dont have anything to add to that package, and he's not better than Steve anyway. I really think the Rockets should pursue this. Imagine Ming dominating the inside, and Garnett dominating everything else inside the arc. All we need is a shooter. The last teammate Garnett had who was as good as Ming is Marbury. Think about that.
KG comes to Houston? This is my dream. KG and Yao will get along. Yao likes KG. He said in a Chinese interview that he likes him. Does KG like Yao? I don't know. I only remember that at the postgame press conference of All-star game, KG (the MVP) answered the questions of reporters. His first sentence was "This is the first time that I play with Yao." But don't you guys think both KG and Yao are too unselfish? I can imagine that at the 5th game of NBA finals, KG throw the ball to Yao who is posting up and Yao throw it back to KG and KG give it to yao again and yao give it back to kg again.
