www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=1341','31' A trade rumor that has been gaining some steam since the conclusion of the NBA pre-draft camp, this potential trade would send the disgruntled Kevin Garnett to Sacramento in return for whoever Minnesota wants with the #19 pick, Brad Miller, Kenny Thomas, and a newly signed and traded Bonzi Wells.
Has there ever been a superstar for role players trade that ever worked out better for the team that got the role players?
At a minimum, I'd ask for #19 pick/Bibby or Artest/Miller and a Future pick. Pick up Gay or Marcus Williams at #6.
Chris Webber for Kenny Thomas, Corliss Williamson, and Brian Skinner. Yeah, those three aren't that good, but Webber is mostly just a burden with that contract...
maybe i've misread some things, but i was pretty sure he was disgruntled. at the very least, he didn't exactly seem to love the way things were going last year and it finally seems like his intensity has almost burned him out since it's not getting any results. he seemed almost defiant in saying he wanted to stay in minnesota and win there, like staying in hell and trying to win would be better than saying he gives up and going somewhere else, even if it means he stays in hell. as for the trade proposed, minny better get more than that. and i don't think webber qualified as a superstar anymore by the time that trade went down. that was post-microfracture webber we're talking about. and it's hard to evaluate the grant hill trade as hill basically never played, though it obviously worked out better for detroit.
Screw the 19th pick. I'd do it for Miller, KT, Wells, and Martin. That basically gives the Wolves a brand new starting 5 along with whomeever they draft.
I read a Phoenix board the other day and a Suns fan made this very interesting trade proposal: KG + Minn #3 pick for Amare + filler (Kurt Thomas?) The Suns can use the #3 pick to draft a promising young player (Rudy Gay? Brandon Roy?). Nash Raja Bell/Brandon Roy Marion KG Diaw This would be one scary lineup. I don't think the Suns would even consider to trade Amare at this time. They will definitely prefer to take a good look at how he can recover from the microfracture knee first. But imagine you add KG to the mix of Nash, Marion and Diaw... KG will have at least 3 more good years and the Suns with KG would be hard to beat during this period.
As you said, Minn would not consider it, so why throw the #3 in too? With Amare's knee injury, he isn't worth KG straight up. If anything, Phoenix should be giving Minn their 1st rounder.
Still, that trade only worked out for Detroit because Grant Hill was injured. Healthy Hill and I think Orlando comes out on top, as Hill was easily a top 10 player in the league.
