From the first post in this thread:

Okay, but how did he get the name KillBill? I've seen that everywhere.

That is his nickname in Greece. It was picked up in some of the Greek articles that were posted here when his contract offer was just a rumor. From what I understand, Vassilis is the Greek equivalent of William or Bill. And with the proliferation of U.S. pop culture and media, I guess the movie caught on as a moniker for Spanoulis.

Oh and contrary to some posts, the KillBill nick is not the product of a babelfish translation. If you follow the original Greek language link, you can clearly see that they've written "Kill Bill" in English letters.

As for why the clutch board has taken to writing it without the space in the middle as in "KillBill", I have no idea since the original greek links show it clearly as "Kill Bill" with a space. I guess it looks cooler that way.

m_cable, I did not think it it possible to do better than the first installment but yeah, you outdid yourself. Kudos.

I agree that we should use the remaining MLE first before trade but I am willing to defer to the front office based on the feed back they have been getting so far.

But for the sake of wishing, I would not mind Lorenzen, Ely or Ariza.

In Greek, Vasilios translates to Basil or Bill in English. When a Greek is talking about the person, Vasilios is used. When a Greek is talking to the person, Vasili is used.

In this case, Vassilis is a form of Vasilios. It's just a matter of spelling. So, VSpan's name in English would be Basil and more commonly Bill.

Phonetically, VSpan's name is as follows: Vas-see-lis Spa-noo-lis. I need to check with my dad on that, but I am 99% sure, that's the phonetical description.

Comprende? My father's name in Greek is Vasilios, so I am pretty familiar with the name.

Another example would be Nick, my name. In Greek, I am known as Niko. When someone, say my Dad, is talking about me to a relative, he would say Nikos, if he were to talk in Greek. However, if he talked directly to me, he would call me Niko.

It looks like his 43% 3-point shooting percentage would tie him for 8th in the Men's A1 league in Greece. I don't know for sure because he is already listed as a "former player" and he doesn't appear on the stat charts (quick webmaster over there). The top 20 3-point shooters ranged from 50% to 39%.

As context, he is tied with 2 Americans:
William Avery - shot 26% during his 3 NBA years
Joseph Forte - never shot a 3 pointer during his 2 NBA years

So, I think we have to wait before we know anything about his shooting. I'll believe it when I see it.

We do need an extra shooter as well as an upgrade at the 4 spot and additional backup for Yao at the 5. I think we should get Richie Frahm with the vet minimum and get Ely with the TE.

    Here you go:

    Udrih
    http://www.euroleague.net/plantillas/jugador.jsp?id=AGP&temporada=E02
    http://www.euroleague.net/plantillas/jugador.jsp?id=AGP&temporada=E01

    KillBill
    http://www.euroleague.net/plantillas/jugador.jsp?id=JUO

The shooting percentages aren't that far off from V-span. But as expected KillBill was a more consistent scorer than Udrih.

    m_cable,

I hate starting new threads so I hope you get to this. Has there been any interest in a GARM FAQ for Eliyahu? With the signing of Vassilis, I have real expectations that Eliyahu might make it into the NBA in a few years. Signing Kill Bill opens the door for this Euro-developement to happen again.

No pressure, I'm just interested myself and wonder if others are too.

Wow. A GARM FAQ for Eliyahu. I didn't even entertain the possibility. Since I know next to nothing about the guy, and he'll probably stay in Europe a few more years, he's really not on my radar at all. Just like I don't think I'll do one for Badinae any time soon. If one of these guys actually comes over, then I probably would (if I'm even still doing these threads down the road), but for right now, I'm afraid not.

I like the posts. I like the form, the style, the content and I hope it continues.

An idea: I'll assume that when the season starts, that these things won't be frequent at all. I'm fine with that, but I have some ideas for you if you do enjoy writing these. You could do them on players during a ten game stretch. On FT shooting as a team. Our up coming schedule. I'm sure you get the point of the ideas. I just like the way you break down things and simplify them. I read everyone two or three times. They really are good. I just hope you enjoy writing them so it doesn't feel like labor. If you get tired of doing them you could teach me your ways, yoda_cable, then I could ghost write for you.

Thanks for the suggestions man. I think the format has a lot of flexibility in discussing a wide range of topics (I mean an FAQ page is pretty much standard procedure for any webpage to reply to feedback and/or disseminate information). I've got some ideas for scouting, X's and O's type topics like JVG's defense and offensive sets and philosophy, and scouting reports for Yao, Tracy and others. And I do enjoy writing them. But it is time-consuming. Some people are natural writers and have the words flow right out of their fingertips. I need to work at it.

As for the future. If I stop doing these, it will be due to a time issue. Not only does writing the articles themselves take time, but it requires me to be plugged into the Rockets scene in order to make informed comments.

I'll level with you. I've got some other creative aspirations that I want to pursue (fiction writing, and maybe screenwriting/filmmaking). And right now with these FAQ topics and mix video, I'm practicing at organizing my thoughts and trying to gain confidence in my abilities. I'm taking baby steps by tackling a topic that I love (the Rockets), and hopefully using it as a stepping stone to get better at other forms of creative expression.

So I really don't know how much longer I'm going to have time for the Rox, and staying current on what's going on. So I guess you should enjoy these topics while you can (Yes, I know that this makes me sound like a raging egomaniac, but to be honest, I'm trying to enjoy it while it lasts too ;) )

As for ghost writing. Wouldn't you be better off if I ghost write for you. That way you get all the credit with none of the work. :p

Thanks to the few of you who are still reading, and (hopefully) tolerate me spouting off about my inner feelings and ambitions and crap. It feels good to put that kind of stuff in writing, even if nobody is really paying attention.

I am a filmmaker and I understand what you've got going on. Having the energy/patients to do re-writes is as vital to the business as practice. Of course, I'm in documentary so it's a whole new set of legos to build with, but I understand why you like to write widely and get it perfect. Like you, I like to write using various mediums/topics. It seems like you have to excercise the creative muscle or it gets weak. My favorite will always be a letter to a friend. You can't beat it, in my book.

Want to ghost write a V/O???

How far along are you in screenwriting? Do you know screenwriter form? I have a pretty good book that I referenced a lot during my scripting phase. Don't be intimidated by the format(if you don't know it already). It means nothing. It's just form. I could take anything you write and put it into script form in no time at all. You could read this book of mine in an afternoon and be at my level that night. Final Draft is awesome too. The timesavers built into the program help you maintain flow and not stress out on form. It's a great thing to have if you can get it, but it's not necessary either. Knowing the terms for everything helps you use Final Draft. Of course, you really only need the thing between your ears, a pencil and paper, but I'm preaching to the choir, here.

What do you edit on? FCP, Premiere? iMovie? Sorry to pry. I just don't know many people that actually work on our craft. Oh yeah, and have you read, "Steve King's On Writing"?
