PC isn't that - no. PC is saying a person should be banned or censored because of comments they make. PC focuses on the word. PC says that hear no evil then see no evil.

I am not favoring censoring anyone. I am not against words. Not at all, only in questioning their thinking. It's one thing to try to label someone a racist for a word - it's another to question what makes someone utter that word and ask if it does reflect a wider problem. But I don't think you really care to want to see that - I think you just want to think you're right and I'm wrong - so that's what's the point in discussing?

There are plenty of American men who abuse their wives and treat them as slaves. Domestic violence is a major problem in our country. Yet it's fairly accepted still despite a recent push - by women - to change it.

It may not be the society, it may be a case of the strong physically dominating the weak.

That said, there are many instances of families treating women horribly. BUt again, that's more a function of social-economic status then anything about culture. We should pull of stats before making your case that one society is more prone to beat and enslave women then others.

Maybe our definition of enslavement is just different.

I don't advocate silencing her. I only said she shouldn't complain about breaking a law when she knew the consequences...the blackmailing incident is only backed by her - no other evidence, and earlier reports said the person was a friend.

She should protest the law, not the punishment.

Unjust laws should be broken if one feels they are unjust. Gandhi said so himself. BUt he also said that you should accept the consequences of breaking the law.

Otherwise you are inviting social anarchy and criminals to justify their actions.

no, that those who are so vehemently claiming Saudi culture is inferior to ours and they must be backwards people - there may be some inherent racism there.

Suggest that something may be wrong with this war - and you are on the side of the enemy.

Suggest that maybe there's something wrong with condemning a culture as backward and inferior may reflect bias, and all of a sudden you support rape.

Actually, it's not racist at all. I have lived in Saudi since 1988. And well....they are behind us. Outside of the oil rich areas, Saudi Arabia is nothing more than a goat/camel herding country.

That country is slowly moving towards present day living, but man. It's still such a mess.

As long as the Matawas are allowed to enforce the religious laws, that country is always going to be "barbaric".

 

Of course - you probably are reading this because you are so tired of my posts. It's getting so tiresome that you have the need to read and reply, and tell us all how tiring it is for you to continue reading. If Saudis were like America - there would be no problem. They need to be more sexually promiscus, carry hand-guns, learn about politcal back-stabbing and thirst for money. They need to learn the art of divorce, usary, and driving SUV's.
