Seems to me the facts are in dispute and certainly not certain by any means.

So fascinating how people have stopped condemning Saudi society as treating women unfairly now that it has come out that her mail companion or whatever also got raped and received 90 lashes.

Of course, to date - there's no report of her receiving even a single lash!

 

Are guys in Saudi Arabia such inherently sick scumbags that they need a law in place to keep unrelated men and women from being alone in the same car, just in case the rapist desires within gets unleashed? Can I safely assume there is no unchaperoned dating?

There is no such thing as dating in Saudi Arabia.

 

Until recently, there wasn't such a thing as dating in a lot of places like India and China.

And with a 50% divorce rate - many may say dating may not be such a great thing. Maybe there's a reason for arranged marriages.

That being said, I couldn't ever have one. I much perfer dating, and moving from one relationship to another. Hmmmmmmmm.....are we really better off? NOt saying we are - but c'mon, we can't say it worked out better.

I don't think there is anyway to say. Divorce might be lower, but I'm not sure that conditions are better for a number of those wives. I think there are situations where it worked out for the better, and situations where it didn't on both sides.

 

You can't say. We can't say we are better of or worse - it's all a matter of perception.

So can we say we are superior to the Arabs? To anyone for that matter?

Can any group lay claim to being more humanistic or civilized as a society?

Having talked to Korean in-laws who were around, or family members of such marriages, I can tell you that in some cases the women were treated almost as slaves, and they themselves have definitely said it was worse.

I'm not saying one society is superior. But I will say any societal norm that mandates one sex serve the other as inferiors, and the like is most definitely inferior.

In the New Yorker way of thinking, PC is bad when condemns George Allen for making racist remarks to someone, but PC is good when it would silence a rape victim's complaints of receiving 90 lashes for getting into a car with a man.

 

i had brought that up to new yorker as well and never heard back. how is it that it is not racist to call an indian "maccaca", but it is racist to think it is wrong to give a woman 90 lashes for getting into a car w/ a man?
