i dont believe i said i never lie. but i will say that i dont argue positions that i dont agree with and i dont lie about myself in order to gain leverage in a debate, as you admit to doing.

total b.s. is this like the time the guy on the golf cart drove by your house when your family was hanging out and called you dotheads so you went and complained to the country club owner, who promptly kicked the offender out? why should anyone believe any of your little anecdotes?

you have yet to explain to me how being against the saudi law that says a woman deserves 90 lashes for getting into a car with a man is racist?

No one denied that she was being punished according to Saudi laws that is the whole point of this thread that Saudi laws strike many of us as being backward. We recognized your point that maybe we should respect Saudi laws since we have some backward laws to and have offered challenges to that point.

The Saudis and their laws ARE backwards.

It is like being back in the dark ages.

Well, actually he was in a pick-up truck, not a golf cart. And I did it because I have the right to kick off a guy from playing on a golf course my family subsidizes.

I never lied about myself to gain advantage. That's your lie. You are the one lying to gain an advantage - defaming my character to win and undermine my point.

The hyprocrisy is actually amusing? Are you playing a game?

Do you agree that she is not being punished for being raped?

Do you agree that they are two seperate items?

Do you agree that the title of this thread is misleading?

i don't mind being in a corner. This is a healthy challenge. I'm up for it.

    maybe i am a troll - what's a troll really? A devil's advocate. I guess I am a devil's advocate.

Or more so, a contrarian. I just don't trust conventional wisdom.

    Hold on now.

The truth is she doesn't have to live in Saudi, and she doesn't have to live in Saudi and get into a guy's car. People living in Saudi know the rules inside out. You especially shouldn't be stupid enough to meet some random guy off the internet in Saudi.

What I am disgusted with in this case is that the rapists weren't dealt with appropriately. They were basically let off the hook.

The rules don't have to be the same everywhere in the world. The whole world won't agree with one absolute rule. That's why there are varying rules based on different cultural and/or religious perceptions of justice. If you don't know by this point in time that even 15 people can't agree on what is "ethical" and what is not, then there's no way you'll understand why rules are so differnt across the globe. I for one don't want to live in a world where the law everywhere, for example, is identical to America's.

Stop the bull****s please, NewYorker. Devil advocate? LOL Contrarian? LOL. It's getting comical. Even the rookies here know you are a well-known moron and hypocrite. And would you please just be a man for once in your lifetime and answer my question: Why do you insist that the girl has commited a crime? Why do you insist that the girl has voluntarily jumped into the car to hang out with the rapists? Unless you were one of the rapists there, how can you be so sure about what had happened? Do you understand the concept of proof beyond unreasonable doubt? Well, for a tard like you who doesn't even know the meaning of manslaughter, I am not very hopeful that you do.

I just lost all respect for you, NewYorker. Anyone who would stoop so low as to defend this outrageous injustice is just as much scum as the stone age r****ds who did this to the woman, in my opinion. Puke.

    MacGreat,

A girl getting into a random guy's car is a crime in Saudi. The punishment is known. She knew what the consequences of getting caught would be before she entered the car.

Personally, I would probably do away with or at least reduce her punishment, but that's not the rule.

The reality of it is that if you get into a random guy's car in Saudi:

    A) You are making yourself susceptible to rape because no one can know what you're doing.

    B) You are taking the risk of getting caught by the authorities.

IF she was blackmailed (and my Saudi friends say it's crap btw) she was blackmailed by something else she did illegally earlier which is even worse than getting into a car with a man. That would give her a harshes sentence.

However, if there was any blackmail material, rest assured the guy who got caught would've sang like a bird about it and she would be getting much worse than 90 lashes right now. There was nothing to blackmail with, she just lied to make it seem like she didn't have a choice getting into the car.

You'd think 5 of the 7 people who gang-raped her would be more than happy to inform the authorities about the blackmail topic when asked.

why are we so quick to discredit rape victims? obviously she as blackmailed with the THREAT. and form the fact that she was beaten by her brother in other reprots, it seems like a simple threat is enough. fact or not fact, she wopulda gotten beaten simply because o fthe accusation, it looks like to me.

the story i got is that the guy who was blackmailing her also got raped, but he said that he was trying to save her and did not know her from before, this case has more to the story that what fox news reported. By the way he also got the 90 lashes, seems noody cares about the male rape victim.

Initial reports were that he was a friend. Later on in an interview which was reported by the Saudi Gazette and contributed to the foxnews story, she explained he was a blackmailer and NOT a friend. The lashes she got was directly because HIS blackmail threat forced her into that car in the first place.
