I maintain that nothing gets pushed at GameStop nearly as hard as warranties get pushed at BestBuy... now THAT's annoying...
Totally unrelated to the topic, but I just saw this commercial and had to post it. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qbd4Mhaunn8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qbd4Mhaunn8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
LOL at the people complaining about Gamestop.. If you know how to work it, get the email coupons, and then use your discount card on top, you can pick up guaranteed-to-work pre-owned games at excellent prices. There are some people who just HAVE to have a game the day it comes out, well, Gamestop is not meant for you. But I am surprised no one has mentioned Gamefly, as that is really the best place to get your games. You can try out whatever you want, and buy pre-owned for the best prices too. Or, just play a game until you are sick of it and send it back for the next one. Paying $60 for a game these days is for suckers. hehehe
What, 2 or 3 days is too long? In a thread where people are bragging about buying used games off of EBay? Hm, well yeah, you can get your game right now at Gamestop, and not have to wait for the mail. Patience, grasshoppers..
Word. The only downside to GameCrazy is their selection tends to be lacking and sometimes you have to go to several stores if you're looking for a particular game. But man is it nice to get a clean, original case for your game that doesn't have fifty redundant stickers all over it.
I'd say that those are exactly the people who Gamestop are a big option for. With the (sometimes) exception of Frys, you can't really rely on other places to have new games the very day they are dated for release. For all it's negatives, you have to admit that if you want to buy a new game (particularly one that isn't a 'blockbuster'), preordering from there pretty much guarantees you'll have it first day. Sometimes even midnight. Gamecrazies are, quite literally, dumps. Often with a bored employee they pulled from the video side to work the register. Still, though, they definitely do have higher trade in prices. It varies, and sometimes it's worse (back in the day they used to try and push those 'pick from one of these magazines for a FREE trial!!!), but it's pretty much guaranteed that, if you are not a 'regular', GS will hit you up for at least a preorder a 'game guarantee/warranty' a strategy guide a Game Informer subscription/discount card Now if you are going there enough they already know the answer to this stuff, but for most people this is what they will get hit with. How aggressive will they be? Well, that also varies. It just depends on if they were threatened to be fired by the management that day.
Eh I used to work at Gamestop for a few months. They teach us to push to sell that Gamestop Membership card + subscription. They always want the customer to buy used games also and not just one. So if you want to buy a game and you get a new copy, they always suggest buying a used copy. A "single item" sale is dreaded over there, at least that's what they made me believe. Btw those opened games have sometimes been brought home and played by the employees themselves. ( you get to "product test" a game for 2 nights) And sometimes they are the demo discs inside the systems you can play in the store.
Compared to Netflix it is. I used them for several months, and it would sometimes take a whole week before I saw my next game. Also, games would get lost in the mail more often than Netflix. Having a bright orange envelope that screams "OMG Gamez!" doesn't help matters.
See, before I had the card I always got hit with that question, and I occasionally get the pre-order question. But I don't think I've ever been asked about strategy guides, and I've DEFINITELY never been asked about warranties. Never once in all the Gamestops I've been to. I wonder if some of this stuff just gets pushed more in Texas for some reason.
Possibly. I know for sure that all of those things are pretty much mandatory (or at least last I heard) selling points that District Managers required employees to push in stores. (I have a buddy who's been an GS manager for 5 years).
This is off topic...but... What is Gamestops return policy? I just bought a 360 like 2 weeks ago and its already messing up. Can I still return it since it hasnt been 30 days yet? I dont feel like waiting on Microsoft to fix it. (I'd really like to be able to just get my money back though, pretty pissed that its already messed up.)
