To quote Harrisment, "LOFL". Dude - I agree with the yankees fan, unless you comment in that thread, even just a "What the !@#$ are you guys doing, it is never going to happen," your credibility around here is shot. Maybe you don't care about that but then again don't be surprised if people keep harassing you about it.
I'm at work so I can't post the video now, but on Gametrailers I saw last night there was a new Starcraft 2 video uploaded that shows some single player campaign gameplay. Pretty cool stuff. One thing that stood out to me was how the environment could possibly come into play. There was one part where the SCVs (good to go, sir) were mining those special yellow minerals that are worth more, but the area with the minerals are periodically covered in lava, so you have to get your guys out of there before the lava arrives. Also loved the part with the gigantic Battlecruiser arriving to save the colony. They did a better job putting that monster to scale. Now it shoots out a bunch of lasers that can kill like half a dozen Zerglings at a time. That might be a hero unit though, and not a normal BC.
I am here at the show in Cologne, amazing Church...simply beautiful. Gonna go see Alan Wake tomorrow, can't wait, then the CCP party...with S&M girls...oh yeah... Just got back from the Crytek party, free booze and BBQ, which was not reallyl BBQ but it was free and tasty. I love GERMANY !!! BTW, it is 1:30 in the morning here...ugh...gotta get up early.......talk about buzz kill..... DD
DD, I'll be there Thursday night, will have a very busy schedule, unfortunately, but perhaps we can meet briefly for a beer or so, if you have time. Oh, and chow yun fat, fess up or gtfo.
Perhaps I shouldn't say anything yet since I haven't really looked over the recent stuff (this was recent news right? and I'm assuming they did mention GS emulation directly...otherwise...), but I don't know if I'd put much stock into this. I guess it is a start, but they tend to patent just about everything they can, regardless of whether it will actually work out. They also have some fantastic diagrams: I know the PS3 Slim is getting a lot of attention, but some of the other stuff they showed off looked really good too. New trailers for Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted 2, and Heavy Rain. All of them were really great too IMO (although HR was maybe a bit...corny I guess?). Getting pretty excited for those games. I'm too lazy to post links to them, but you guys should definitely check them out. Oh and new God of War 3 paintings...um...screens too. Firmware 3.0 seems nice. Nothing flat out amazing, but I think I like the new views they have (What's New), although it may depend on how it actually is implemented. Dynamic themes are great. New info displayed on the top right is great, especially if you're more of an online guy than I am. There is a trailer for the wand, or whatever it is called. More of the same I guess. Not really interested personally (interesting tech though). Maybe TGS could change my mind. Saw some stuff about GT5, although I'm not sure what is going on there. Something about 20 tracks and 1000+ cars, but damage/cockpits might not be in every car I think? Information was pulled I think, so something is going on there. Might hear more about this later I guess (GT is big in Europe, and the GT creator is at the event). I'm not enough of a GT fan to really follow what is going on obviously. Seems like more and more stuff being announced for PSP. I'm a little behind on PSP news though, so I won't really comment too much. But on a related note, Persona 3 is getting ported to the PSP. Not sure if I'll double-dip, but interested in seeing how that works. Probably would be a great game to play on a handheld. Apparently some new Mass Effect 2 media (screens and trailer I think). Haven't really had a chance to check out some of these other things. Tell them they need to release the game on the PC too. Maybe even on "accident" if need be. Seriously, I'd be interested in hearing more of your impressions. Let us know how it goes.
GT5 is a crazy story. I never play racing games, especially sim ones, but the GT series for whatever reason has always drawn me in. GT is always a must buy for me. I think its the ridiculous dedication to realistic physics and unique representations of each car. They really go all out for that game. But GT5... you'd think it came out already its been so long. Every time I hear about it I assume it came out 3 years ago and I forgot to check it out.
Yeah, it's relatively recent. The patents for the EE came out a while ago and a lot of people got excited, but most of those people didn't know that the GS was the chip that needed to be emulated for backwards compatibility to work. I would imagine we will see backwards compatibility again at some point - probably after Sony stops selling and supporting the PS2, and probably as a purchasable download in the PS Store.
Same with me actually. Not really into racing games at all, but I once played GT3 and really enjoyed it. Might give GT5 a shot, once it goes greatest hits...in 2015. I guess the only thing worse than a FF fan is a GT fan (at least on consoles). OK, finally checked out the recent patent. Or rather, I read what smarter people than me had to say about it (patents are pretty much unreadable to me). Encouraging that it was submitted after Sony took out BC, and even said they wouldn't put any resources towards it anymore. Seems to talk about recompilation, which could help with emulating the GS. Still probably a lot more work than what is mentioned in this patent though, at least to get a decent emulator. I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens. I know I would love some PS2 games on the PSN...assuming they actually put some effort in putting them online anyway. Felt like I should post a random screen from Uncharted 2: Some crazy stuff going on at Naughty Dog.
I think Lionhead already had their conference. Announced Fable 3 for Late 2010. Not sure if there is any more details than that. Also, regarding PS2 BC: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/...our-questions-about-the-new-playstation-3.ars
Just back from the show, loved it, the first day is for indusry people only and it is not very crowded, I got to see a lot of stuff. Here are 3 memorable ones I got to play or get some hands on with... StarCraft 2 looks great, same game play many improvements....a must buy. COD MW 2 - saw private demo - the ice mission, it was awesome...very well done another great game. Blur- I am not really a racing fan, but I played the game for more than 30 minutes.....loved it.... Unfortunatly I am leaving to London tomorrow...more work...UGH....then home Friday....FINALLY. Today in Cologne it was about 94 degrees...dang it.....I brought Texas with me. DD
