Sorry for bringing an old thread back to life but.... Played this past weekend for only the 2nd time, Texas Hold 'Em Poker tournament. Didn't play as well as the first time, but I still had a good time. I've been thinking about getting into a league that plays every Thursday night. I'm also still determined to learn how to play contract bridge, canasta, and euchre. Add rook to my list of card games I like to play in addition to pinochle, hearts, solitaire, spades, and texas hold 'em poker. And like A-Train, what does "VC" stand for?
Whist is a great game - it really fits somewhere between spades and bridge. Start with spades, move to whist, then if you liked that move on to bridge.
yeah, my moniker is a bridge moniker. I lost my partner though (he moved), so don't go to the studio's anymore. If I found another partner i'd start a paying membership at acbl.org's site; that's where all the serious players play. Sure would like to find someone in Houston, though, willing to play a variation of Blue Club.
has anyone played Grass http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass_(card_game) <img src="http://images.boardgamegeek.com/images/pic58114_t.jpg"> that's a pretty fun game. great for parties.
I grew up playing a game called Mille Bornes which had an excellent balance of skill/strategy and luck and was also fun for a child to play.
I was the KING of the Coup Fourré! I once played all four back-to-back. I though my oldest brother might have a cerebral hemmorage, he was so pissed.
I'm Viet also, so VC. Also "Bin" or i think "Super Poker" which is 13 card poker with a hand of 5,5 and 3.
Many an hour wasted on that game. Also... Spades. I'm so good at Spades I don't have to brag about how good I am... unlike you losers. Poker. I don't like the current type of poker running around. I don't want to look at a screen or sit at a smoky Vegas table with people I don't know. I enjoy it when you have a bunch of friends playing "Dealer's Call." It's more about the fraternity than the money, though it is sweet when you beat your friends. Dabbled in Bridge. I consider it like racquetball... I've picked up the game, but I haven't mastered all the angles.
Do you know of anyplace that we can play online? If not, I need to scan images of the Mille Bornes cards (not the new ones... the old ones) and build an online version.
My friends and I play a game that we call Bridge.. but I recently found out it wasn't actually "real" bridge (we didn't use any point systems and all 4 players participated after the bidding). So, I was wondering if anybody on the BBS knew the exact name of the game we were playing... There's 2 teams of two, with partners being across each other. Each person gets 13 cards.. and the person to the right of the dealer begins to bid on the "trump card". The order goes.. clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, no trump (1 bid = 7 books to win for both teams; 2 bid = 8 books to win for team that wins bid, 6 books for the other; 3 bids = 9 books to win for team that wins bid, 5 books for the other, etc.). The person who wins the bid begins playing cards to win books. Whatever suit the first person plays, others have to follow with the same suit. The team with the highest card collects the book. If you have no more of the same suit, one may decide to use a "trump" card to win the book if necessary. Only when a trump card has been played or when the player has no other choice, can it be played first in a book. Does anybody know the correct name for this game?? Or is it just a variation of Bridge?
alexdapooh, Assuming there is only one round of bidding (you didn't say), that's the classic version of Bid Whist (it sounds like). Just like Spades, there are other versions. Bid Whist is the predecessor of Bridge. Bridge added mutliple rounds of bidding (bidding doesn't end until there are 3 consecutive passes) and the dummy. The dummy is what makes bridge vastly different (and special wrt strategy) to any other trick game. Otherwise, it is played the same, although different scoring. note: you mentioned "point system." Point systems are not part of the rules for Bridge. It is just a means for partners to communicate their cards during the bidding.
Hearts Solitaire Poker VC Palace Bridge Four of a kind Go Fish Blackjack Speed Egyptian Ratscrew, although I suck at it and my favorite.....BS! That's all I could think of at the moment.
Beat me to it. For me, this, poker (Texas Hold'em) and a gmae me and my friends call idiot (Similar to BS)
