We are on Austin Public Access, Wednesdays at 10:00 pm
    Cable 16
    Dorm 15
    Antenna 9

The first half hour is tapped segments and the 2nd is the live portion of the show and this week I think we are playing Lost Planet. In the 1st half hour we'll have the top 5 wii games to look forward to, Review of Lost Planet, trailer of TMNT the game (which IGN says sucked), A Crossfire panel with fanboys from the 3 systems, the Old School Nintendo Revolution cartoon that everyone loves and some other stuff I can't remember. The pre taped stuff was done right before spring break so the energy is not as high as it usually is but the live portion will be gold.

It would be cool if you check it out.

I'm 2 hours away from 2 units done. Europe was dark on the map yesterday, now there are lots of pretty lights there. (Though not as many as I thought there would be)

Nope, sorry. Hope you can get some help from their forums. They should hopefully know a lot more on how this works.

I don't recall exactly. Somewhere around $1250-$1400 IIRC, and this was a little over a year ago I believe. That did include a new monitor, 2 HDDs, a new mouse and keyboard, and a few other things besides just the key components.

Thanks, I'll try to check it out sometime.

I checked out the stats page again, and the PS3s are more than doubling the performance the Windows PCs are giving (with 12,394 PS3s active). Guess I shouldn't be surprised since that's exactly what the PR in the original post said (if they get 10,000 PS3s, the performance will double). I wonder how big this will get by Sunday...assuming people keep using this and actually know about the "Foldathon."

Downloaded the program and have added my PS3 to the group. The wife wants me to leave it running all day today, but I don't want to run into any overheating problems with the machine.

I see RC on the team, but it doesn't list me as a donor yet. Maybe it starts with the next packet I dl.

You have to complete a WU while registered to a team before it accepts you I think. I signed up whenever FlyerFanatic made the team, but it didn't list me until my current WU finished this morning (there was a delay there too). That's how it works for PCs anyway. Their servers are under a lot of stress I imagine, so they may be a little slow on getting the stats updated correctly.

It would have been nice if the WUs I completely previously (as an anonymous donor) counted for the team. Not that I did that many, but still.

Man that overclocking must work well for you. I guess my processor is ****, takes forever to do it. I wont finish a work unit for about a week or some crap at this pace

EDIT: RC you mind shooting me an e-mail, would love to hear what parts/brands you purchased and what not. I know RAM has a huge part in how fast things go, but doesnt processors have a play in it to? Would like to build another computer, would love to have mine run like yours since you see no problems/slow downs while running F@H.

I'm finished with 3 units but I went through them strait. I never shut off my PC but I'm more protective of the PS3. Is anyone going to leave it on all the time.

I gave it a break today.

Man how are you guys getting those WU's so quick? jeez

EDIT: Damn, once again I had to uninstall, for whatever reason the red icon went away, so i went to open the program back up. Once I did that, computer screen goes black and computer restarts. I'll keep posting on their forums see if I cant get this all straightend out.

Just out of curiosity, I checked this out a little more on my laptop, which is considerably less powerful than my PC (it has a Pentium M processor clocked at 1.6GHz, and only 512MB of RAM). I'm not really seeing too much slowdown on it either by having F@H run in the background (not any more than usual anyway). I could browse the web or watch a movie w/o any problems (or even both I think). And that was with keeping the CPU usage at 100% on the F@H configuration setup. FWIW, it seems to take about two times as long as my PC in completing a WU (about 1-2 days for PC, 2-4 days for laptop on the same sort of WU).

I can still send you an email, but I would think that you wouldn't necessarily need a PC as powerful as mine just to run this application in the background.

    Now for playing games...

I wouldn't leave it on 24/7. I have no idea exactly how likely it is that the PS3 would overheat, but this is a pretty demanding application, running on a new system that can get very hot and hasn't had the chance to really work out any bugs. From what I understand, it seems like Sony did a good job in designing the system to help prevent overheating, but it will still happen. Especially under certain situations that won't help.

I guess the groups can add a little bit of competition, adding some incentive for people to keep on with the project. For example, if there was a team made up of RealGM members or something (maybe there is?), we wouldn't want those guys to do better than us. Of course, there could also be competition within the team (compete to be the #1 donor). Of course, with only 2 users listed for our team, there's not much competition so far. Especially since I can't compete with oomp and the Cell processor in his PS3. :( Although I should have 2 more WUs done in a few hours.

There are now ~25K PS3s, providing 618 TFLOPs, and the project as a whole is providing 872 TFLOPs. We're getting pretty close to the mythical Petaflop (1000 TFLOPs). AFAIK, I think only one supercomputer has that much power, so it would be nice to beat it...not that these are directly comparable, but still. I've noticed some people having issues with uploading the WUs; I'm guessing there is some chaos at Stanford involving their servers (and that's not good on the weekend).

I"m going to give this a try, going to download it now.

    I have an Intel Core2 Duo E6400 OC'ed to 2.65Ghz, 3Gigs or ram (DDR2 800). I might be able to help out a bit.

Have you finished a WU after signing up for the team? You have to finish a WU before it will put you on the list. And it will probably take some more time after that before Stanford updates the page (IOW, you won't see your name on the list 5 minutes after completing the WU).

The lights represent PS3 owners or something like that I believe. I forget exactly what each light represents. I think yellow lights are PS3 owners that are Folding, but not sure about that.

edit: The team has completed 5 WUs now (2 for both oomp and myself, and one for "jcbradley"). I think I'm the only one using a PC though since they got more points than I did. We should have 6 pretty soon since my laptop is finishing up a WU.

No real purpose to the groups other than friendly bragging rights.
